S80/81 Community Food Hub

S80/81 Community Food Hub exists to provide emergency food relief to those in need in our local community, to signpost and refer users to other agencies, and to provide ongoing pastoral support through community events and services.

Supported by Greencore sandwich factory and local supermarkets, we provide simple lunches and where appropriate, larger food parcels.

Aims and Objectives:

● To provide a local point of contact for those in financial need due to covid-19, unemployment or changes in circumstances. Through our church and community
networks we are able to offer short term, local support.
● To alleviate the strain on other local services such as Bassetlaw Food Bank. Where we can provide immediate support, we aim to help those who may
otherwise be referred to the Food Bank or other local schemes.
● To assist users in self-referral to other organisations such as the Food Bank, Citizens Advice Bureau, local mental health services etc.

What we offer:

● Sandwiches are donated from Greencore and crisps, biscuits and drinks are bought from local supermarkets, and we also receive donations from supermarkets of tinned goods.
● When someone requests support, we will meet with them to discuss their needs and what we can offer. This may take the form of lunch deliveries, or a one-time
food parcel. We encourage them to access available local support, and where necessary to self-refer to Bassetlaw Foodbank via the local council phone line.

We have two delivery days, Tuesday and Friday, on which we deliver our lunches to users.

For one person this consists of 2-3 sandwiches, a choice of crisps or biscuits, and a drink.

We currently provide around 30 lunches per session to families and individuals in our local area.

This provision is reviewed on a 4-weekly basis to best assess our support and the needs of the user.

● Where it is more appropriate, we can offer a one-time food parcel which will be delivered to the user and aims to provide simple staple provisions for several means.
● We are currently in the process of planning monthly drop-in sessions in the local community in which food is provided and other agencies are invited to attend to give advice and support.
● Starting after Easter 2023, Wednesday Welcome offers a safe and friendly cafe-style space to enjoy lunch with others from the community and supported by
church staff. This social eating venture offers an opportunity to combat social isolation and encourages participants to walk to church, promoting health and
well-being and keeping our carbon footprint low.
