Rhubarb Farm

rhubarb farm

Rhubarb Farm is a horticultural social enterprise located in the rural ex-pit village of Nether Langwith/Langwith, providing placements, training and volunteering opportunities to the most vulnerable people in the rural areas of Bassetlaw, Mansfield, Bolsover, and NE Derbyshire.  It aims to change people’s lives for the better and alleviate social isolation by engaging people in purposeful, productive  work on the Farm, and in the communities it serves.

Everyone supported is called a volunteer, which recognises the social and economic contribution that they make, and affords them a sense of worth.

The Farm is totally inclusive, supporting about 75 volunteers at any one time, who are ex-offenders (including people newly out of prison, serving Community Service Order hours, and with a criminal record), LGBTQ people, recovering substance misusers, people with physical and mental ill health, people with physical and learning disability, school students struggling at school with their behaviour, people suffering from domestic abuse, and older people, some of them with dementia.

They come to the Farm for a minimum of one day (6 hours) a week, and no time limit is placed on anyone attending, because recovery and change can take a long time, and is specific to each individual.

The Farm has a wide range of activities for volunteers – horticulture including veg bags and supply to local farm shops, construction, food hub work, Community Cafe, garden maintenance, woodwork, events organisation, community projects (eg tree-planting, litter-picking), and a range of workshops, courses and training activities.

The Farm employs 24 staff, which includes 5 casual staff.
