Arrangements for patients who require urgent dental care

Patients with a regular dentist (generally considered to be a dentist you’ve attended for routine dental care in the past 12 months) should call their regular practice during normal surgery hours.

If you have no regular dentist, or if your regular dentist cannot see you, it may be worth calling local dentists to see if they can see you. They are not under an obligation to see you and you may be charged for their services, but they may be able to help.

Alternatively, or if this is unsuccessful you can dial 111, who will assess and refer you as described below

Call 111 if;

The above is unsuccessful or if the urgent need arises outside of normal surgery hours
The pain cannot be managed with over the counter pain relief until the dental surgery opens (safely!, always read the medication instructions and if in any doubt seek pharmacist advice)
When you call 111 your condition will be assessed by this service and your details forwarded to the unplanned dental care service if appropriate.
