Safety in your Home

Thankfully serious house fires are generally quite rare, however nationally it kills and injures hundreds of people in their home each year. Even small fires can cause extensive damage to property and possessions, and that doesn't include all the stress and disruption. Fortunately, there are a number of steps you can take to reduce the chances of fire in your home.

Outdoor Safety

Fire safety isnt just confined to your home, and whether youre celebrating Bonfire Night, having a BBQ or celebrating a time of worship, our outdoor safety page has got you covered.

Professional Referrals

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service work closely with partner agencies and our training has been developed to accommodate our ever-changing community needs and give you, the professional, the tools to identify someone who is at risk in their home of having a fire or, potentially, not being able to escape a fire.

Adults and Older People

Some elderly people are, sadly, often very vulnerable to fire due to health problems or reduced mobility. Many of the fatal fires in Nottinghamshire over the last few years have involved people aged 60 or over and the Service is keen that anybody who feels that somebody they know, be it an elderly neighbour, relative or friend, is at risk of fire gets in touch with our Persons At Risk Team (PART).

Children and Young People

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service is committed to creating safer communities and a big part of this is the work we do with young people. The Service's Education Team works closely with schools across the county to produce up-to-date education packages that are relevant to the curriculum. These packages are delivered in schools by firefighters and members of the team.

Road Safety

Firefighters in Nottinghamshire attend hundreds of road traffic collisions each year - many of which are serious. The Service works hard in conjunction with other agencies, such as Nottinghamshire Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service and the Nottinghamshire Road Safety Partnership to educate local people and reduce the amount of crashes that occur on our roads, and there are a number of things that road users can do to help with this.

Deliberate Fire Setting

Fires set deliberately have a significant effect on the local economy, damage the environment, destroy property, and can in the worst cases take someone's life.
