Bassetlaw District Council and Bassetlaw Community Voluntary Service (BCVS) are proud to announce their continued partnership for the second consecutive year, aimed at providing vital support to local residents as they navigate the challenges of the upcoming autumn season.
The Bassetlaw Cost of Living booklet, initially introduced last year, quickly became an invaluable resource for residents seeking guidance on financial support, mental health services, family assistance, energy solutions, housing, access to affordable food and clothing and much more. Now, with additional information and resources, the 2023 edition is poised to be an even greater asset for those in need.
This invaluable resource will be distributed across Bassetlaw and made readily available in key community spaces to ensure accessibility for all residents. An online version of the booklet will be available to anyone with internet access, along with web pages that can be translated into various languages to cater to the diverse demographics of the area.
Originally scheduled for release later this month, the launch date was moved forward to coincide with the Wilko Redundancy event happening in Worksop today. This decision was made in response to the unfortunate situation faced by a significant number of Bassetlaw individuals affected by the recent events concerning Wilko, who may require similar types of support.
Councillor Lynne Schuller, Cabinet Member for Health & Wellbeing at Bassetlaw District Council, expressed her thoughts on the initiative, stating,
“The impact of the cost of living cuts across many aspects of people’s lives be it debt, health, relationships etc. and it can be difficult to know where to find help and support. The booklet pulls the information together in one easy to use document. We know that many hundreds of local residents used it last year and we are delighted to work with a range of local organisations to publish the updated version.”
Rachel Wood, Head of Marketing and Communications at Bassetlaw Community and Voluntary Service, added,
"It is a shame that so much support is needed for a second consecutive year but we do take immense pride in being part of such a collaborative community here in Bassetlaw. Key partners consistently come together to support our local residents when they need it the most. The voluntary and community sector plays a vital role in addressing the challenges faced by our local people. Consequently, the charities and groups we support are under significant pressure themselves, so if anyone is in a position to volunteer and assist these organisations in helping others, it is an excellent way for locals to get involved."
