b:friend was founded in 2017 and recently received funding to work in Bolsover, Chesterfield and NE Derbyshire. b:friend aims to build community connections to reduce older neighbours experiencing social isolation. Through 1:1 befriending, b:friend hopes to provide opportunities for meaningful friendship to grow. Volunteers pledge to visit a socially isolated older neighbour near them for one hour per week for a cuppa and a chat. There is no cost to our befriending scheme, ensuring that everyone can access support regardless of financial status. Since launching in January 2017, the charity has supported over 1,800 older neighbours and now delivers over 13,500 hours of social connection per year.
