ABOUT THE PEER/VOLUNTEER-LED SUPPORT GROUPS:

The groups are peer and volunteer-led and aim to support those with moderate to medium mental health issues or those who can moderate their behaviour during the group session.

The groups are open to all; however, certain values must be adhered to, and members must be in control of themselves, meaning the groups have a zero-tolerance for, aggressive behaviours, drugs, and alcohol while at the groups.

New members can be supported by a carer or healthcare professional in the first instance and on an ongoing basis if found helpful.

  • The groups can be a community, informal friendships, or constituted groups
  • The groups support those with moderate to medium mental health issues or those who can moderate their behaviour during the session.
  • The groups can aim to help members maintain their own well-being levels by sharing similar lived experiences.
  • Alternatively, they can be about distraction, diversion, interruption, or respite, as in an art group.
  • This sharing/distraction enables members to give a unique quality of mutual support.
  • It enables members to share and swap skill sets.
  • Groups are peer and volunteer led.
  • The groups do not offer to counsel
  • The groups also have access to local support information and signposting options.
  • The groups aim to help members find new ways to cope to help maintain individual wellbeing.
  • The groups ethos is to offer a forum to show kindness and give hope

The groups are all listed on the mental health support map below, so please check out the details on there and if you require more information about any of the groups, please use the contact details below.

In every community across Derbyshire, Community Mental Health teams, Social Care and the Voluntary sector will work together as one team to provide mental health and wellbeing services.

As part of the Derbyshire Recovery and Peer Support Service new roles have been created to support the work of Living Well in Northeast Derbyshire, Bolsover, and Chesterfield.

Wellbeing Coaches will offer coaching support in the multi-disciplinary teams to support individuals with practical skills such as planning, time management, and accessing community groups.

Peer Coaches will bring lived experience to the team and support individuals to build skills such as confidence building, resilience, and support attending appointments.
