Holiday Club Funding Available for Easter & May Half-Term: Following the Department for Education’s extension of the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme in England, Feeding Britain is pleased to offer additional funding to holiday clubs across the UK during Easter and May half-term. This funding should be used to provide additional places at holiday clubs for children living in poverty who are not eligible for statutory support (such as free school meals and the HAF programme).
Organisations can apply for up to £10 per child per day to increase the number of places on their holiday provision, offering enriching activities and meals that meet School Food Standards. This funding must fully cover the cost of these places, with children and their families offered to attend for free. Applications are open until Sunday 16th February, with funding agreements expected by mid-March. Organisations can apply at https://forms.gle/KZP52XyXczVT7YWb9. Local authorities and HAF coordinators can also apply on behalf of clubs in their area using this application form. Please get in touch with Anna on anna.lopez@feedingbritain.org if you have any questions or issues with the application form.
'HAF Plus' Evaluation: Professor Greta Defeyter, Chair of Feeding Britain's Academic Advisory Group, has shared the attached evaluation of the 'HAF Plus' offer in Gateshead, co-designed with young people specifically to meet the needs and circumstances of 12-16 year-olds.
In Kind Direct Holiday Club Resources: Those of you running holiday programmes this year may be interested in joining In Kind Direct’s charitable network in order to spend less on supplies and activities. They can provide access to games, outdoor activities, arts and crafts materials, stationery, and personal hygiene items. You can register for free here and you can find out more about In Kind Direct in this recording of our introductory webinar with them.
Food Waste Grants: The Government has announced a new £15 million fund that will help charities collect food waste from farms and distribute it to those who need it most. The new scheme will involve grants starting from £20,000 being made available to the not-for-profit food redistribution sector in England. Information on when the fund opens and full eligibility criteria for applications will be confirmed by Defra but you can find further information here.
Country Food Trust – Frozen Venison Mince: The Country Food Trust produce and distribute nutritious protein-rich meals to community food projects, using meat such as venison and pheasant. They are sometimes able to offer delivery to a single location of 1 tonne of raw frozen venison mince in 250g and 500g packs to a community food project or network to distribute within their locality. The meat will be frozen, so there is time to distribute this to other projects and partners in the area. If you would be interested in receiving these deliveries, and have capacity to receive and distribute 1 tonne, please email Rose on rose.bray@feedingbritain.org including your contact name, contact phone and email, organisation name, and delivery address. Rose will pass this on to Country Food Trust.
Practice Sharing – Providing Baby Formula: Please find attached a write up from St Chad’s Community Project in Gateshead of their scheme to support families with baby milk. The scheme is funded by Household Support Funding and works in partnership with the local pharmacy to ensure the formula is stored correctly and the appropriate brand can be provided.
Social Housing Toolkit: The ‘Make things right’ campaign offers advice and support to anyone in social housing who may have issues with their home so that they know their rights and know how to complain. Please see the attached toolkit and the information below:
Everyone can play their part by getting the message out to more people to help them get their social housing issue sorted. Knowing the three-step process will help residents get issues such as damp and mould, leaks, broken locks and anti-social behaviour, fixed. You can support residents by distributing campaign materials, such as leaflets and posters, from the toolkit of assets attached. You can also encourage them to visit gov.uk/social-housing where they can find more information. By offering clear advice, showing guidance and support, we can all make a real difference to people in social housing. Together we can ‘Make things right’.
If you require assets to be printed out and posted to your organisation, please email socialhousingpartnerships@23red.com.
