New Inspire hub opens at The Buttermarket, Newark

We're excited to announce that our brand-new centre at The Buttermarket, Newark, is open! The new centre will offer a whole range of inspiring courses, workshops, events and more for young people and adults.
We worked with Newark Library and new learning spaces at the YMCA activity village to create a lively hub that offers courses in employability, health & wellbeing, languages, maths, creative writing and more.
The mezzanine floor of the Buttermarket has been transformed into the new educational and cultural centre which includes three brand-new learning spaces, fully accessible state of the art facilities and brilliant tutors.

It's National Befriending Week at the start of November, and there's no better time to join us at one of our weekly Places of Welcome sessions.
Meet friendly volunteers at a range of our libraries across Nottinghamshire, who help to provide a community network where anyone can go to find a friendly face for a cup of tea and a chat. There's no charge and we'll pop the kettle on, everyone is welcome. All ages. All backgrounds. Always.

Our Rattle, Rhyme and Roll sessions are relaxed, friendly rhyme sessions for babies and toddlers.

Lost Words: The Exhibition
An exhibition of Notts dialect words beautifully illustrated by artist Hannah Sawtell and featuring poetry produced by Notts school children from workshops led by acclaimed poet Andrew Graves and Natalie Braber, Professor of Linguistics at Nottingham Trent University.
The exhibition is touring around six Nottinghamshire Libraries, supported by Inspire Libraries and Miner2Major funding.

I Am A Reader Exhibition
The ambitious I Am A Reader project aims to uncover authentic insights into the adult reading experience. We worked with an artist to create a series of illustrations inspired by the thoughts and insights about reading from readers themselves.
The touring exhibition of striking visual art and wonderful words is currently on view at Beeston Library, which you can visit for free.

Drummer and composer Sam Jesson has been a key figure on the London Jazz scene for some time now, and this tour marks his debut as a bandleader, in trio with Tom Farmer (Empirical) and George Crowley (Ivo Neame Quartet).
This cracking band work magic with their adventurous interpretations of timeless tunes such as 'Autumn Leaves'.

East Coast Main Line Disasters
The East Coast Main Line skirts the north of Nottinghamshire on its way from Edinburgh to London. Author and popular speaker Adrian Gray gives examples of how inadequate safety measures on the line led to disaster, including famous accidents at Doncaster and Grantham. These times where things went badly wrong influenced the gradual improvement of safety down the years.

Controversies in coal: Internment, impoundment and intrigue at Harworth Colliery 1913-1924
Harworth Colliery had a chequered history during its eighty-two year working life. The controversy commenced right from its initial development by the Anglo-German firm, the Northern Union Mining Company, in 1913. David Amos will share the story of the near German colliery at Harworth, its demise and subsequent redevelopment after World War One.
