Trigger Warning – the following discusses themes around Suicide

“Suicide doesn't always look suicidal” Campaign Against Living Miserably

In support of World Suicide Prevention Day (10th September) The Georgia Bird Foundation and the Derbyshire Mental Health Liaison Service are holding this exhibition to raise awareness and hold space for people to talk openly and compassionately about suicide and mental health.

Inspired by the recent Last Photo exhibition held by CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably); a powerful and thought-provoking exhibition showing the last photo taken of people who have sadly taken their lives (see the exhibition here https://lnkd.in/dGpD3B7e),  Rachel Bounds (DVA) and Ellie Scott (Georgia Bird Foundation) have decided to hold a similar event in Chesterfield. The event will honour those who have taken their lives, sharing their stories, their friends and their families

When will the event take place?
The exhibition will be open daily between 10am-3pm from Monday 5th September 2022 to Saturday 10th September 2022.

Where will the event take place?
It is a week-long event in The Hub @ Low Pavement (31 - 34 Low Pavement, Chesterfield)
We will also be holding a public living room at Vicar Lane shopping centre (next to the outdoor cinema)

With the support of Chesterfield SoBS, The Tomorrow Project, Mentell, Kakou and Social Prescribers, we are creating a space where colleagues and volunteers can connect with members of the public and raise awareness on suicide prevention, signposting where people can go for support. Additionally, there will be a space exhibiting art created by our groups and colleagues that highlight what mental health means to them.

What can you do to show your support?
We are hoping groups and voluntary sector colleagues will want to join us on this journey. This will be a safe and compassionate space that holds meaningful conversations and raises awareness of suicide and how we can best support people who may be struggling.

If you have a story to share of someone you may have lost, or would like to share your own story through art or creativity, then we would of course love you to be involved. If you would like to volunteer and offer us support during these events, please get in touch.

We respect that this is a sensitive subject, and it may be difficult for some people to get involved, however, if you know anyone who may be interested, please share with the people you know. As always, we thank you for your support and for everyone’s efforts in supporting people living with mental health.
