HAVE YOUR SAY ON MAJOR PLANNING APPLICATION
The Misterton Neighbourhood Plan, approved by a majority (over 91% of those voting) in a community-wide referendum in September 2019, identified five sites for possible housing development in the village. Now, the owners and developer of land off Fox Covert Lane have submitted a planning application (21/01811/FUL) for the erection of 63 two, three, and four-bed dwellings on land to the north of Fox Covert Lane, Misterton.
This is the first of the five sites to have progressed to a planning application. Misterton Parish Council will consider the application at its meeting in March. Residents can have their say in one of the following ways:
· at an information session on Saturday 5 March, 10.00am to 3.00pm at The Misterton Centre
· make a comment on Bassetlaw District Council's website (go to planning portal)
· contact the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group (theclerk@misterton-notts-pc.gov.uk or by phone on 890780 or in writing at The Misterton Centre & Library, 52 High Street, Misterton DN10 4BU)
· attend the next meeting of the Parish Council on Tuesday 8 March at 7.30pm in the Granary Room, Grove House Stables
· apply to speak at the meeting of the Planning Committee when the application is considered (the date has not yet been publicised).

FAMILY BINGO NIGHT
Misterton Bowls Club is holding a family bingo might on Friday 11 March at 6.30pm in the Methodist Hall, Misterton. Buy you winning cards and entry is £1, including refreshments. Come along for a fun family evening! The Bowls Club is self-financing; proceeds will help fund much-needed work to the green.
FINANCIAL HELP FOR THE OVER 60s
The Goodwin Charity makes one-off grants to those over 60, living within the old Retford Rural District area, which includes Misterton. Financial assistance can be given towards a specific need, such as disability aids, household goods/furniture, bathroom aids, mobility aids, etc. There is an application form on the BDC website (www.bassetlaw.gov.uk), e-mail: goodwin.charity@bassetlaw.gov.uk or call 01909 533 249. All applications are dealt with in strict confidence. District Cllr Hazel Brand is a Trustee and is happy to provide further advice and guidance on applications. Applicants must wait for a decision of the Trustees before getting work done or making a purchase as, generally, no monies can be paid retrospectively.
BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: SERVICES OPEN
Bassetlaw Action Centre’s office is open for enquiries from 9.00am to 1.00pm (with an answerphone outside of these times). BAC is continuing to provide:
- community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
- Befriending and Housing Advice services, which are telephone-based
- the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) will be delivered through Zoom
- the Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support (but no group activities, unfortunately – they are temporarily suspended)
- Home Support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service).
BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people.
BAC’s priority is to stop the spread of the virus and to encourage people to stay at home, wherever possible. Staff encourage anyone needing any help or at risk of social isolation to contact them on 01777 709650 or by e-mail (enquiries@actioncentre.org.uk) as they are working with a range of key partners to provide help and support where needed. CHURCH CAN’T KEEP GOING WITHOUT HELP!
The 18th century Parish Church – a historic gem in the heart of West Stockwith – needs residents’ help to keep going. Most urgently required is a treasurer. Can you contribute to the village’s oldest institution? The role, which is honorary, entails simple book-keeping, including producing the end-of-year balance, liaison with the Independent Examiner, and presenting the Annual Accounts to the Annual Parochial Church Meeting. If you can add up and subtract – you could do it!
Training by the Association of Church Accountants & Treasurers can be provided. No formal qualifications are needed. However, familiarity with MS Excel (or similar spreadsheet software) and book-keeping experience are desirable, as is empathy with the aims, ethos, and beliefs of the Church of England. The Treasurer can be a member of the PCC, but this is not essential. l Coming soon (Tuesday 3 May) is the Parish Church’s Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) when members of the Church Council are ‘sworn in’.
