MISTERTON GIRL COLLECTS GOLD AWARD FROM PALACE (+ pic)
Achieving the Gold standard in the Duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme earned Misterton girl, Laura Jaggard-Smith, a trip to Buckingham Palace to collect the badge of honour. Laura is pictured wearing her badge.
Although Laura finished the award two years ago, trips to the Palace have just resumed. Completing all three awards, including Bronze and Silver, for the Gold award Laura did circuit training, learning to drive, and volunteered at Misterton Library. She did her qualifying camp on the North York Moors in the blazing heatwave of summer 2019, then did a residential in Derbyshire at a wildlife and conservation camp. Congratulations to Laura!

- the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) will be delivered through Zoom

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people.
BAC’s priority is to stop the spread of the virus and to encourage people to stay at home, wherever possible. Staff encourage anyone needing any help or at risk of social isolation to contact them on 01777 709650 or by e-mail (enquiries@actioncentre.org.uk) as they are working with a range of key partners to provide help and support where needed. WEST STOCKWITH NEWS
Thursday 19 May 2022
Contact: 01427 891376
PARISH COUNCIL ELECTS CHAIR
Cllr Sue Harford was re-elected Chair of West Stockwith Parish Council at the Annual Meeting of the Parish Council this month (Thursday 12 May). Cllr Jonathan Downes was re-elected Vice-chair.
VILLAGE SUPPORT FOR COMPLAINT ABOUT ROAD BARRIERS
West Stockwith Parish Council has supported neighbouring Misterton Parish Council’s complaint about the road barriers installed on Haxey Road. It is felt that they are likely to cause greater harm than the reduced risk of vehicular accidents that installation sought to alleviate. So West Stockwith will write to the Department for Transport (DfT): there has been no attempt to draw on local knowledge on the use of Haxey Road as part of a circular walking route from West Stockwith through Misterton, and the safety of walkers going to and from the caravan sites, pub, cemetery, and the villages has not been taken into account.
Installation of the barriers has adversely affected walkers and cyclists, with a number of near misses reported. The Parish Council has supported Misterton’s request that the barriers be removed or a footpath created along this stretch of road.
PARISH COUNCIL UPDATE
The base for a new flagpole, to be erected on the grassed area at the junction of Main Street and North Carr Road, has been installed. The flagpole will be in place in time for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend.
West Stockwith Parish Council has vacancies for councillors. If you have an interest in the village and would like to play a part in its future, get in touch with the Parish Clerk. The Parish Council is also looking for a handyperson to carry out simple tasks around the village, mainly during the summer months. For either vacancy, contact the Clerk on 890294 or e-mail WestStockwithPC@outlook.com
