MORE THAN £5m IN COUNCIL TAX REBATES ALREADY PAID

For anyone waiting for the £150 Council Tax rebate to help with energy costs, most residents who pay by direct debit have received their cash. Those who pay this way but have not yet received the rebate, it may be because Bassetlaw District Council (BDC) requires further information or needs to carry out additional security checks. For this small percentage of residents, BDC staff will be in contact shortly.

Residents who do not pay by direct debit are being contacted via e-mail or letter from mid-June. Information will provide instructions on how to claim the rebate, in addition to a unique verification code that will be needed for security purposes. To process the rebate, these residents will be asked to visit the Council’s website to provide details and the unique verification code, in addition to confirming other security questions.

Those without access to the internet can contact the Council Tax Team by phone to provide all the information needed to process your payment. But wait until the letter/e-mail has arrived before getting in touch. Since the beginning of May, BDC has made payments totalling more than £5m to people in Bassetlaw who pay their Council Tax by direct debit.

CHANCERY LANE CAR PARK, RETFORD – STILL CLOSED

Chancery Lane Car Park remains closed while works to secure the site, with new bollards and height barriers, continue. This follows a successful possession hearing at Mansfield County Court, serving notice on those occupying the car park. The car park has now been fully cleaned, collecting approx a quarter of a tonne of rubbish as well as disinfecting the area. This has cost around £250.

NEW COUNTY-WIDE POLICY ON FUNDING ADAPTATIONS FOR DISABLED PEOPLE

A new, countywide Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) Policy replaces Bassetlaw’s own policy, meaning that all districts follow the same protocol, creating a uniform policy for home-owners across Nottinghamshire. Changes include:

    • mobility scooter storage and charging points will not be provided through a DFG
    • ramps for access to the dwelling will be provided
    • car parking or dropped kerbs will not be provided
    • cases in excess of £10,000 will be referred to the Disabled Facilities Panel.

There is a separate adaptations policy for council properties

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: SERVICES OPEN

Bassetlaw Action Centre’s office is open for enquiries from 9.00am to 1.00pm (with an answerphone outside of these times). BAC is continuing to provide:

  • community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
  • housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
  • a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
  • the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
  • Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
  • home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service).
  • minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, they are looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.

For further details on any of the above please contact BAC on 01777 709650 or by e-mail (enquiries@actioncentre.org.uk)  Further information can be found on the website: www.bassetlawactioncentre.org.uk.

PARISH COUNCILLORS SIGN UP FOR SPEEDWATCH TRAINING

Three parish councillors are signing up for training for the Community Speedwatch scheme. Speeding is a problem in the village - and anyone else interested should e-mail either Gareth.Mitchell@Notts.Police.uk or James.Pickersgill@Notts.Police.uk with the following details: name, DoB, address, phone number, e-mail, which parish you live in, and whether you are interested in being a co-ordinator.

The training session takes 2-3 hours and includes a presentation before introduction to the equipment and deployment techniques. Don't just grumble about speeding in the village - help tackle it!
