MISTERTON GALA - A FAB DAY FOR ALL THE FAMILY! (+ pic)

Misterton Gala (Saturday 2 July) went well, was very well attended, the weather behaved - and the bar had to be re-stocked three times! Pictured is Be’dazzled with their performance from Les Mis.

There was a solo performance from Anya Wiltschinsky, dancing from Everett-Fox School of Dance, and a fab set from Big Wayne’s Blues Experience, plus the dog show, vintage vehicles, fire crew, children's entertainer, local children's authors doing book readings... An all-round good family day. Many thanks to the organisers, all those who supported it with their stalls - and to all those who attended.

GUIDE TO BUSINESSES IN MISTERTON & WEST STOCKWITH

It has been suggested that residents and businesses in Misterton and West Stockwith could benefit from a community directory of organisations. The last time such a handy guide was published was in 1997, produced by North Notts Community Care Local Partnership Fund. It would be timely to produce a new directory to see how organisations and businesses have fared during the pandemic.

This is an initiative that fits with the objectives of the Misterton Area Partnership (MAP), a company limited by guarantee, that aims to facilitate the economic health of the two communities (among other objectives). But, first, new trustees are needed as there were two departures in the last year. If you’re interested, get in touch with the Chair, Hazel Brand, on (01427) 891376 to find out more.

NEW PCSO

With the retirement of PCSO Dave Airey at the end of April, a new PCSO has been appointed: John Dale. John can be contact by e-mail (John.Dale@notts.police.uk) or by phone (07971 784 181). Please note, however, that his number should not be used for reporting incidents - continue to use 999 if the incident is taking place, or 101 if is not an emergency or has already happened or there is information to pass on to Notts Police.

l Insp Hayley Crawford, newly-appointed neighbourhood policing inspector for the Bassetlaw area, writes a monthly blog, which can be found on the Notts Police website (www.nottinghamshire.police.uk/neighbourhood/bassetlaw-rural). “Rural crime is of great importance to me and our community,” she writes. In May, she met with inspectors from across the county border to discuss working together on tackling cross-border crime. The result of this was a Cross Border Rural Crime Operation with South Yorkshire and Derbyshire Police. The team included off-road bikes, dogs, and the Tactical Support Group. The results included stopping a van from South Yorkshire that had an angle grinder, often used for catalytic converter thefts, and 100 skeleton keys. Police also caught four people who attempted to steal a motorbike and were found in possession of two knives.

E-SCOOTERS: ILLEGAL ON ROADS AND PAVEMENTS

With the summer holidays rapidly approaching, Notts Police is reminding the owners of privately owned e-scooters that it is currently against the law to ride on a public road or pavement. They should only be used on private land for which the owner has permission to use. Anyone stopped by a Police Officer could result in a warning. Should the rider of an e-scooter be stopped for a second time, it could result in seizure of the e-scooter under Section 165 Road Traffic Act 1988.

FINANCIAL HELP FOR THE OVER 60s

Households using oil for heating may not benefit from Government grants in the same way that users of gas and electricity do. Moreover, suppliers are said to be delivering only full tanks of fuel, not part tanks. For residents affected in this way, the Goodwin Charity may be able to make a one-off grant to those over 60, in the Misterton Ward. There is an application form on the BDC website (www.bassetlaw.gov.uk), e-mail: goodwin.charity@bassetlaw.gov.uk or call 01909 533 249. All applications are dealt with in strict confidence. District Cllr Hazel Brand is a Trustee and is happy to provide further advice and guidance on applications. Applicants must wait for a decision of the Trustees before making a purchase as, generally, no monies can be paid retrospectively.

l District Cllr Hazel Brand has published a leaflet, Money Advice & Practical Help with the Cost of Living. If you would like a copy, it is available in Misterton Library or by calling Cllr Brand (tel: 891376). The leaflet is being updated and will be available in the Summer.
