YOUNG PEOPLE'S COMMUNITY PROJECT - GARDEN TOOLS WANTED!

The young people of Misterton Youth Club are spending a day (Tuesday 9 August) on a community activity. And they are going to weed around the Parish Church and through the churchyard, which is a public footpath. Then, after lunch, they will head for Wharf Bridge and tidy up the area around both the road bridge and footbridge.

But the 15-20 youngsters involved need some basic tools, gloves, waste bags. If you have some that aren't being used, please drop them off at the Youth Club during the afternoon/evening before or on 9 August before 11.00am.

VILLAGE NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN HAS 1ST REVIEW

The Misterton Neighbourhood Plan was developed over a three-year period with extensive consultation with the community and went to referendum in September 2019. It was approved by a majority of those voting so was ‘made’ – in other words, it had legal weight when Bassetlaw District Council (BDC) was determining planning applications.

Since then, it has become apparent that there are some areas where the improvements could be made. In no small part, this is due to developments in neighbourhood planning, changes in legislation and statutory guidance, and learning from other villages that completed their plans after Misterton. So, the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group, working with planning consultants, funded by Locality (a Government organisation), has embarked on a review. Much of the Neighbourhood Plan remains unchanged, but there are some key updates that will go to public consultation, probably in September.

PARISH COUNCIL’S SUMMER RECESS

There’s no meeting of Misterton Parish Council in August – the next meeting is on Tuesday 12 September. Contact the Parish Clerk by phone or e-mail (01427 890780 or clerk@misterton-notts-pc.gov.uk) with any queries or for information. The Misterton Centre is open at the usual times throughout the summer, but is closed on the day after the Bank Holiday (Tuesday 30 August).

PARISH COUNCIL ADOPTS GREEN ACTION PLAN

Misterton Parish Council, which, jointly with West Stockwith Parish Council, runs a Green Group committed to combatting climate change, has adopted its first Green Action Plan. Drawn up by the Green Group, it outlines things that parish councils can do – and things that individuals and households can do – to tackle climate change.  A guiding principle of the Green Group is what we, as individuals, can do: we can’t leave it to the international community. We can’t leave it to Government. We can’t leave it to county and district councils. Based on two reports by the Centre for Sustainable Energy (Carbon Footprint Report – Misterton and Carbon Footprint Report – West Stockwith), both villages lag behind the national average for per-household emissions in four areas:

  • use of goods and services: this covers all household goods but not food, and services such as maintenance and repair of the home, vehicles and other equipment, banking and insurance, medical services, education costs, TV/internet/phone, and other fees and subscriptions
  • travel: transport choices
  • housing: use of energy in the home
  • food and diet.

The Green Group will be looking behind these figures for the reasons and basing future actions on the findings. For the full report, go to the Parish Council’s website.

l The Green Group’s sell/swap event scheduled for Sunday 17 July was postponed due to the forecast heatwave that day. It will be re-scheduled for later in the year.

SUMMER PARTY RAISES OVER £9K FOR CHARITY (+ pic)

White House Farm, Misterton, held its popular Party on the Field this month after cancellations for two years due to Covid-19. The event is held to raise money for charity: the five charities this year were Cancer Research, Macmillan, The Health Tree Foundation (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Sheffield), Five Villagers First Responders, and Help Me I'm Fine. In all, £9175 was raised, giving each charity £1875. The Party was attended by many from the local community – thanks to all who helped to make it another event to remember!

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: SERVICES OPEN

  • community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
  • housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
  • a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
  • the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
  • Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
  • home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service).

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, they are looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.

PARISH CHURCH TO BENEFIT FROM SHOPPERS

St Mary’s Church is one of the local organisations to benefit from Misterton Co-op’s Community Champions scheme. Members voted to support three local community groups; the scheme runs until Saturday 3 September.

Every time a member shops in the store, a donation is made to the Community Champion scheme. The Co-op also raises money through activities, events, and collection boxes. So call in for your local shop and help the Parish Church at the same time. St Mary’s is raising funds for roof repairs.

LOCAL SURGERY RE-LAUNCHES PATIENT PARTICIPATION GROUP

Local residents, who are registered with the Riverside Misterton surgery, are invited to join the re-launched Patient Participation Group (PPG). Members of the PPG work with the practice to plan and improve services by contributing the patient’s or carer’s perspective. No qualifications or training is needed: just a desire to focus on positive action for the benefit of patients and staff.

Meetings will be held in each of the four Riverside surgeries. A virtual group will help those unable to travel. If interested, pick up a leaflet in the Misterton surgery or ring 01777 713 330.
