PARISH COUNCIL COMMITS TO SUPPORT FOR UKRAINIANS

At the March meeting of Misterton Parish Council, it was proposed that Misterton Parish Council, on behalf of the community, commits to playing our part to help with the resettlement of any refugees from Ukraine: be that with school or education, if in the need for help from the Food Bank, with clothing, bedding, or furniture, etc. In fact, whatever they need and for however long they need it. The proposal was unanimously approved.

Notts County Council is responsible for co-ordinating refugee dispersal within the county. Refugees tend to be sent to areas where there are already people of their own nationality. However, it is perfectly possible that Bassetlaw will be asked to house some Ukrainian refugees, who may end up in Misterton as there is a quantity of social housing in the village.

MAKE THE MOST OF MOTHER’S DAY

There’s a service for Mother’s Day at Misterton Parish Church on Sunday 27 March at 11.00am. It’s an opportunity to thank mothers for all they do and have done – and fathers will get a mention, too. All ladies attending will get a spray of flowers – and there’s cake and coffee (or tea) after the service. All are welcome!

UNITED BENEFICE FORMED WHILE SEARCH FOR NEW VICAR CONTINUES

The parishes of Beckingham, Clayworth, Gringley, Misterton, and West Stockwith have had the formal approval of Southwell’s Bishop’s Council to combine as a united benefice—the Oswaldbeck Benefice. In line with the proposal submitted to Bishop’s Council, elections to the united council will be held at the next Annual Parochial Church Meetings in April and May.

Meanwhile, the search for a new vicar continues. The parishes of the Oswaldbeck Benefice have submitted to the Diocese their Benefice Profile, which describes the parishes and the sort of person they want to fill the clergy vacancy. A representative from each parish will form an interview panel—and there will be an event when all church council members and others can meet the applicant(s). A possible interview date is in May; further details will follow.

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: SERVICES OPEN

Bassetlaw Action Centre’s office is open for enquiries from 9.00am to 1.00pm (with an answerphone outside of these times). BAC is continuing to provide:

  • community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
  • Befriending and Housing Advice services, which are telephone-based
  • the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) will be delivered through Zoom
  • the Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support (but no group activities, unfortunately – they are temporarily suspended)
  • Home Support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service).

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people.

BAC’s priority is to stop the spread of the virus and to encourage people to stay at home, wherever possible. Staff encourage anyone needing any help or at risk of social isolation to contact them on 01777 709650 or by e-mail (enquiries@actioncentre.org.uk) as they are working with a range of key partners to provide help and support where needed.
