1ST CONCERT AFTER LOCKDOWN PACKS PARISH CHURCH (+ pix)
The first concert in Misterton Parish Church since the Covid pandemic saw big band, Room 21, entertain an appreciative audience. With barely a seat to spare, the big band sound filled the historic space and the building’s acoustics did the musicians justice. Saxophone player, Fiona Law, said: “What a fabulous afternoon we had in a packed All Saints’ Church in Misterton! It feels amazing to enjoy playing to such an enthusiastic audience - some even found some space to dance!” So popular was the band that it is being booked for a return concert in 2023.
REVIEW OF THE MISTERTON NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN
The Misterton Neighbourhood Plan was developed over a three-year period with extensive consultation with the community and went to a village referendum in September 2019. It was approved by a majority of those voting so was ‘made’ – in other words, it has legal weight when Bassetlaw District Council (BDC) is determining planning applications.
It has become clear since then that there are areas in the Plan that already need updating. While many of the Neighbourhood Plan policies remain unchanged, there are some key improvements in the Plan’s first review. The changes mean that the Misterton Review Neighbourhood Plan must go out to public consultation again. A leaflet from the Parish Council to all households this month outlines the changes and explains how to access the new documents. In addition, there is a drop-in session at The Misterton Centre & Library on Saturday 12 November between 9.30am and 4.00pm.
Responses can be made online. The consultation period will last for just over 6 weeks from Monday 31 October to Friday 16 December.
SCHOOL HARVEST FESTIVAL
Misterton Primary School’s Harvest Festival this month saw children walk to the Methodist Church for this annual celebration of the harvest. Generous donations of 16 bags of produce for Bassetlaw Food Bank brought the total given to those in need to nearly 4200 since the Misterton community – with help from surrounding churches – began supporting the Food Bank.
l Further donations to the Food Bank will come from the Methodist and Parish churches’ own Harvest Festivals this month.
MISTERTON LIBRARY NEEDS YOU!
Misterton Library is constantly recruiting volunteers to run the Library, making sure that this valuable asset in the village remains open. The Library is open two afternoons a week and on two Saturday mornings a month. To maintain this level of service and even increase opening hours, more volunteers are needed. If you would like to learn new skills, help Library users, and can give up a little of your time on a regular basis, call in for further information or ring 890646 for details. Full training is given.
WARM SPACES PROJECT
Anticipating the difficulty some will have in keeping warm this winter, Misterton Parish Council is co-ordinating a list of places in the village where residents can come together to stay warm, and perhaps enjoy a cup of tea/coffee and a biscuit or snack. The list of venues is in Misterton Parish Council’s Autumn newsletter. Spare copies are available in the Library.
