WHO WILL SWITCH ON THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS?

Misterton Parish Council is looking for a school-aged child to switch on the Christmas lights this year. All that’s needed are a few lines on ‘I think I should switch on the lights on because…’. Get entries to the Parish Clerk at The Misterton Centre & Library by Friday 25 November (or e-mail theclerk@misterton-notts-pc.gov.uk). The Christmas lights switch-on is on Friday 2 December at 6.00pm.

PARISH COUNCIL'S AUTUMN NEWSLETTER

The Autumn newsletter has been delivered to households in the second week of half term. It contains an extra leaflet about the first review of the Neighbourhood Plan. It's three years since the Neighbourhood Plan was written, consulted on, and approved in a village referendum. The leaflet explains why a review is now needed, what's new, and how to have your say.

To find out more, go to https://misterton-notts-pc.gov.uk/neighbourhood-plan/. Hard copies of the document and a new Design Code report are available to view in The Misterton Centre. There is a drop-in session at The Misterton Centre & Library on Saturday 12 November between 9.30am and 4.00pm. The consultation period will last for just over 6 weeks from Monday 31 October to Friday 16 December.

USE UP YOUR STAMPS!

Royal Mail is adding a barcode to stamps from 1 February 2023, so use up your stamps as they won’t be valid after the end of January. They can be exchanged for the equivalent value in new barcoded stamps - but not at Misterton Post Office: exchange can only be done by post

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE

Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:

  • community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
  • housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
  • a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
  • the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
  • Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
  • home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service).

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, they are looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.

CHURCH IS CO-OP CHAMPION

West Stockwith Parish Church has been awarded over £645 as one of the latest of

Lincolnshire Co-op’s Community Champions. As the oldest building in the village, the money will go towards roof repairs to enable the Church to continue as a focal point in the community. Every time a member shops in a Lincolnshire Co-op outlet, a donation is made to the Community Champion for that area. The company also raises money through activities, events, and in-store collection boxes. So many thanks to all those members that helped raise funds for this vital institution.

ARTISTS AND CRAFTERS INVITED TO EXHIBIT

The annual Babworth Art Festival is on Saturday/Sunday 19/20 November. Artists – and all crafters – are invited to exhibit. There is no entry fee. Works may be sold – there is no commission fee – but this should be entirely between the artist and customer.

Babworth is one of the original Mayflower churches. This year’s theme is ‘New Beginnings’ and the entry can relate to the Mayflower story, Thanksgiving, any part of history or even the future. Entries should be accompanied by a short description of the work with some background information. Take entries to Babworth Parish Church on Friday 18 November between 10.00am and 3.00pm.
