£700,000+ FUND FOR RURAL ENTERPRISES

Bassetlaw District Council (BDC) has a £714,000 rural prosperity fund to support productivity and prosperity in villages with less than 10,000 populations and market towns up to 30,000 residents. Part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the ‘levelling up’ agenda, individual grants of up to around £40,000 will provide small-scale capital funding to new and existing businesses to develop new products and facilities, and new and improved community infrastructure.

BDC has been engaging with rural communities to find out what businesses and communities need. The bid to call down the funds must be submitted by 30 November but grants will not be available until the new financial year. Officers are considering a two-stage application process: first, an expression of interest. If the proposed project meets the Government’s criteria, a full application will be required.

LIBRARY HOLDS HALLOWEEN PARTY (+ 2 pix)

Children dressed up in Halloween outfits last month for a party run by the volunteers running Misterton Library – who also joined in the seasonal entertainment. Suitably spooky decorations completed transformation of the Library. Pictured are two of the children: Alexandra, an apprentice witch, and Hannah, a vampire princess.

LUNCH CLUB TRIPS

Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is running Lunch Club trips to local cafes, garden centres, chip shops, restaurants, and pubs. They are on Tuesdays for residents with DN postcodes and are limited to one a month to ensure everyone gets the chance to have a lunch out. The next trip is Tuesday 22 November to the Lock Keeper in Worksop. To find out more, call BAC on 01777 709650. Transport is free – just lunch to pay for.

CAROL SERVICE AT SOUTHMOOR LODGE

Members of Misterton Parish Church are among those supporting a new service of hymns and worship at Southmoor Lodge, Walkeringham. After a Harvest service in October and Remembrance service in November, a Carol service is planned for Wednesday 14 December at 3.00pm. It is open to all residents and their families.

HEDGEHOG HIGHWAYS NOW IN STOCK

Misterton Parish Council has bought a number of hedgehog highways – arches that are used to create a gap in a hedge or fence to allow hedgehogs to move between gardens in search of food or a mate. The hedgehog highways are free to Misterton residents on a first come, first served basis. So call into The Misterton Centre at any time during opening hours (Tuesday to Thursday 10.00am to 5.00pm, Fridays 10.00am to 2.00pm). Or buy from hedgehogsrus.co.uk.

ARTISTS AND CRAFTERS INVITED TO EXHIBIT

The annual Babworth Art Festival is on Saturday/Sunday 19/20 November. Artists – and all crafters – are invited to exhibit. There is no entry fee. Works may be sold – there is no commission fee – but this should be entirely between the artist and customer.

Babworth is one of the original Mayflower churches. This year’s theme is ‘New Beginnings’ and the entry can relate to the Mayflower story, Thanksgiving, any part of history or even the future. Entries should be accompanied by a short description of the work with some background information. Take entries to Babworth Parish Church on Friday 18 November between 10.00am and 3.00pm.
