MOBILE SHOP TO CONTINUE INTO NEW YEAR (pic)

Bassetlaw Food Bank’s mobile shop, offering knock-down prices for a range of food and household products, will be visiting Misterton every Thursday right through to Spring (but not on Thursday 29 December). The project is funded by Bassetlaw District Council, the National Lottery, and Feeding Britain, a charity that aims to eliminate hunger.

Membership of the mobile shop scheme is free: ask at the mobile shop or apply online (bassetlawfoodbank.org). It is open to anyone and offers 10 food cupboard staples, toiletries, and cleaning products for £4; 15 items for £6; and 20 items for £8. The mobile shop parks up on The Pudge (outside the Parish Church) on Thursdays from 10.30am to 12 noon. Pictured is the distinctive yellow van with organiser and driver, Kirsty.

CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL – ENTER THE COMPETITION!

As part of its Christmas lights festivities, Misterton Parish Council is organising a Christmas Tree Festival. Everyone - individuals, organisations, and businesses - is invited to enter a decorated tree. Bring the tree, which will be on display in the Parish Church from Friday 2 December during the lights switch-on (6.00-8.00pm), to the Parish Church on Friday 2 December between 2.00-4.00pm. Dree it in any way you wish as long as it has a Christmas theme! The height of the tree should not be more than four feet (1.25m). Any lights should be battery powered. Please include your name, and organisation or business, on a sheet of card or paper no bigger than A4, with any other information you want to give. This will be displayed with the tree.

There's a chance to win a prize for the best-dressed tree. And there’s another chance for people to see the Christmas Tree entries on Saturday 3 December (during the Parish Church’s annual Christmas Coffee Morning from 10.00am to 12 noon).

MISTERTON REVIEW NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN

Households in Misterton have received a leaflet about the first review of the Neighbourhood Plan, which was agreed in a village referendum in September 2019. The five development sites are not up for discussion, but the first review sees some other changes, such as suggestions for the future of the Newell’s site, retaining key views and significant green gaps, and design guidelines.

The closing date for comments on the Misterton Review Neighbourhood Plan (MRNP) is Friday 16 December. Go to www.misterton-notts-pc.gov.uk to read the MRNP; e-mail the Parish Clerk to have your say. Or call into Misterton Library during opening hours (Tuesday and Thursday 2.00-5.00pm, and Saturday 9.30am – 12.30pm) to see a hard copy.

GREEN GROUP TO PRODUCE ENERGY-SAVING ADVICE

The Green Group, a joint venture between Misterton and West Stockwith Parish Councils, is producing a guide on ways to save energy – and save money. If anyone has energy-saving tips to share, that could be included in the guide, please send them to hazel.brand@cllr.bassetlaw.gov.uk. The guide is expected to be ready for distribution later this month.

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE

Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:

  • community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
  • housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
  • a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
  • the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
  • Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
  • home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service).
  • minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, they are looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.

Residents, who were not previously eligible to claim £150 to cover rising fuel bills as part of the Government’s Council Tax Energy Rebate Scheme, have until the end of November to apply for additional funding. Bassetlaw District Council (BDC) launched a second Council Tax Energy Rebate Scheme in September and the deadline for applications is Wednesday 30 November.
