PARISH CHURCH’S CHRISTMAS COFFEE MORNING

Misterton Parish Church will hold its annual Christmas Coffee Morning on Saturday 3 December from 10.00am to 12 noon. In addition to traditional refreshments, there will be a range of stalls – and another chance to see the Parish Council’s Christmas Tree Festival.

If you would like to enter the competition for the best-dressed tree, bring it along to the Church on Friday 2 December between 2.00-4.00pm. Competition rules are on the Parish Council’s Facebook page. If you’d like a stall, call Hazel on 890877. If you can help support your Parish Church by making some mince pies or cakes, or donating a raffle prize, also ring 890877.

LIBRARY TO OPEN FOR MORE HOURS

Misterton Library will open for an extra afternoon each week from December. So, in addition to Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings, the Library will now open on Wednesday afternoons from 2.00-5.00pm. This brings the need for more volunteers to help support this village facility. So if you can give up a few hours on a regular basis - but not necessarily every week - get in touch on 890646 or call into the Library during opening hours to find out more. Full training is given.

l The Library closes for the Christmas break after the session on Thursday 22 December. The Misterton Centre closes at 2.00pm on Friday 23 December. Both re-open on Tuesday 3 January.

MISTERTON REVIEW NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN

The closing date for comments on the Misterton Review Neighbourhood Plan (MRNP) is Friday 16 December. Go to www.misterton-notts-pc.gov.uk to read the MRNP; e-mail the Parish Clerk to have your say. Or call into Misterton Library during opening hours (Tuesday and Thursday 2.00-5.00pm, and Saturday 9.30am – 12.30pm) to see a hard copy and fill in a Comments form.

Households in Misterton have received a leaflet about the first review of the Neighbourhood Plan, which was agreed in a village referendum in September 2019. The five development sites are not up for discussion, but the first review sees some other changes, such as suggestions for the future of the Newell’s site, retaining key views and significant green gaps, and design guidelines.

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE

Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:

  • community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
  • housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
  • a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
  • the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
  • Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
  • home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service).
  • minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, they are looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.

VILLAGE CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES

West Stockwith’s Christmas festivities begin on Saturday 3 December on the Malt Kiln at 4.00pm. The joint event between the Parish Church and Parish Council will see the Salvation Army Band play seasonal music and there will be a range of stalls and refreshments. The Band will then move to the Parish Church for carol singing – then to the White Hart, where a bumper Christmas raffle will be drawn. So join in and kick off Christmas in style! Anyone wanting a stall or to donate a raffle prize should contact Churchwarden, Stephanie Baines, on 07500 043 842.

l At the same time, the Parish Church will celebrate its 300th anniversary. So watch out for details of any special events.

PARISH COUNCIL TO TAKE OVER RUNNING VILLAGE HALL

West Stockwith Parish Council has agreed to take on responsibility for the Village Hall at the request of trustees. This requires the consent of the Charity Commission, and meetings are taking place between trustees and the Parish Council to have a smooth handover on 1 January. The Gertrude Morris Village Hall was bequeathed to the village and is of historical importance. The Parish Council will, in time, be looking for a caretaker.
