PARISH COUNCILLOR WINS AWARD

al

Parish Councillor, Alex Myers, was nominated for a Bassetlaw Achiever's Award for the contribution he makes to the community, over and above the tasks that fall to parish councillors. He received his award at a ceremony this month (Wednesday 16 March) from Chair of the District Council, Cllr Jack Bowker.

Among the many additional tasks he takes on, Alex leads the work required to hold the annual switch-on of Christmas lights; this year, he is organising the refurbishment and re-planting of Jubilee Garden in readiness for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. He was nominated by District Cllr Hazel Brand in recognition of his

support to the community, and his dedication and hard work in the parish.

DANCE SCHOOL BACK ON STAGE

ef

Pupils of Misterton’s dance school took to the stage for a sell-out show, two years after last being able to perform in public. #ThisGirlCan saw 65 girls of the Everett-Fox School of Dance present their interpretation of 35 popular songs, ranging from Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody to Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off at the Trinity Arts Centre in Gainsborough (18-20 March). Pictured are pupils of the production group, who are off to Disneyland in Paris next month to take part in the Disney Performing Arts Onstage initiative.

SPRING TABLE-TOP SALE

Misterton Gardeners Club is holding a table-top sale on Saturday 9 April in the Church Room, Church Lane, Misterton, from 10.00am to 4.00pm. On offer will be plants and garden pots as well as arts and crafts, cards, cakes, and ‘second time around’ goods. There will be a raffle and refreshments available. Free entry and free parking so drop in and get something to freshen up your garden or home.

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: SERVICES OPEN

Bassetlaw Action Centre’s office is open for enquiries from 9.00am to 1.00pm (with an answerphone outside of these times). BAC is continuing to provide:

  • community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
  • Befriending and Housing Advice services, which are telephone-based
  • the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) will be delivered through Zoom
  • the Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support (but no group activities, unfortunately – they are temporarily suspended)
  • Home Support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service).

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people.

BAC’s priority is to stop the spread of the virus and to encourage people to stay at home, wherever possible. Staff encourage anyone needing any help or at risk of social isolation to contact them on 01777 709650 or by e-mail (enquiries@actioncentre.org.uk) as they are working with a range of key partners to provide help and support where needed. Further information can be found on the website: www.bassetlawactioncentre.org.uk.
