PARISH COUNCIL SEEKS YOUNGER MEMBERS

Misterton Parish Council is looking for one or two young people from the village to become ‘junior’ parish councillors. Although the legal age to be able to stand for election is 18 – and those of that age and above can stand in the forthcoming election in May for one of the 13 seats on the Parish Council - the Parish Council is happy to have those younger than 18. They will not be able to vote, but their views on village services and developments will be welcome and they can take part in all other Council activities. FOOTPATH WARDENS WANTED

Misterton Parish Council is looking for more footpath wardens. After a call for volunteers in its recent newsletter, five people, who regularly walk local footpaths, have signed up. But more are needed. Anyone interested should call into The Misterton Centre, refer to the map of the definitive footpaths, and choose which routes to walk. There are also report forms to feedback on any problems with footpaths.

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE

Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:

community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service).
minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, they are looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.

PARISH CHURCH PLANS SERIES OF CONCERTS

West Stockwith Parish Church plans a series of Spring and Summer concerts to help continue with its fund-raising campaign, which aims to raise £25,000 for essential roof repairs. While work to the roof is being carried out, the Church Council has agreed to try and fund interior re-plastering and decoration. The first concert is on Wednesday 8 March at 7.30pm when Sue Hollingsworth, an internationally recognised performer of both traditional and biographical stories, is the guest. Further details will be announced, and tickets available, nearer the time.

FINE FOR HOUSE-MOVE FLY-TIPPER (+ pic)

A Bassetlaw man has been ordered to pay £1435 by Mansfield Magistrates Court after his waste was fly-tipped on District Council-owned land at the back of his former home.

Thanks to information provided by a concerned resident, two men were seen by Environmental Health Officers dumping the waste that had been removed from the property of the resident, who was in the process of moving home. When approached by Council Officers, the resident stated he was going to arrange for the waste to be removed. However, an offence had already been committed. The waste was never collected and had to be cleared by Bassetlaw District Council (BDC).

West Stockwith residents are reminded that their waste is their responsibility. If you pay someone to take your waste away, you must use a reputable and licensed waste carrier and always ask for a receipt. There is no excuse for fly-tipping, and anyone caught could receive an unlimited fine, have their vehicle confiscated, or face imprisonment.
