The winter issue of Misterton Parish Council’s regular newsletter has been delivered – anyone who has mislaid their copy can pick up another one at The Misterton Centre. The newsletter includes early information on the proposed family fun day to mark the King’s Coronation, news about the sports field and car park, a reminder on the need to photo ID to vote at polling stations in May, and the precept for the coming year.
BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE
Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:
- community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
- housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
- a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
- the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
- Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
- home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service).
- minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.
BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, they are looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.
For further details on any of the above please contact BAC on 01777 709650 or by e-mail (enquiries@actioncentre.org.uk) Further information can be found on the website: www.bassetlawactioncentre.org.uk.

FOOD SUPPORT DURING COST-OF-LIVING CRISIS (+ pic)
A mobile community shop, run by Bassetlaw Food Bank, visits Misterton every Thursday offering cut-price food and household goods. The bright yellow van (pictured) is parked outside Misterton Parish Church between 10.30am and 12 noon. Ten items cost £4, 15 £6, and 20 £8. Membership is free or register at bassetlaw foodbank.org.
In addition, there is a Food Hub in the hall at Misterton Primary School between 3.00-3.30pm each Wednesday during termtime. A bag of provisions, chosen from what’s available, costs £3 and this scheme is open to everyone, school and the community. The food has been donated by shops and supermarkets so that it doesn’t go to waste or into landfill.
l To date, 4265 bags of provisions have been taken from this area to the Food Bank, most from Misterton’s churches, school, and Co-op store but with some help from neighbouring parishes. There will be cause for celebrations when 5000 is reached!
