LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS ARE KEEPING CHICKENS! (+ pic)

Misterton‘s Library volunteers are busy making chicks. They are on display in the Library until Friday 31 March (pictured) - when they will escape! Volunteers will be hiding them around the village: in hedges, by gates - all at child height. Anyone who finds one and returns it to the Library will get a chocolate creme egg in return. And while in the Library, why not sign up and borrow books!

On Thursday 13 April, from, there’s an Easter egg hunt in the Library from 2.30-4.30pm with lots of activities for children.

PARISH CHURCH HOLDS FUND-RAISING EASTER BINGO

An Easter Bingo with lots of Easter-y prizes will be held in the Church Room, Misterton, on Friday 31 March at 7.00pm. It’s organised by Misterton Parish Church as part of its social and fund-raising programme.

● The Church’s Wednesday services of Morning Worship (10.00am) will continue in the Church Room until Whitsun. It was hoped to return to meeting in Church after Easter but with a gas bill of nearly £900 for just one month, the decision has been taken to continue meeting in the Church Room. Heating will be reduced to a safe minimum during the week but ‘topped up’ for monthly Sunday services.

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE

Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:

  • community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
  • housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
  • a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
  • the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
  • Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
  • home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service)
  • minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, they are looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.

ELECTION TO PARISH COUNCIL

Every four years, there is an election for members of West Stockwith Parish Council – and 2023 is the year. Anyone wishing to stand for election should complete a nomination form, which is available from the Elections Office at Bassetlaw District Council. Call 01909 533 252. Forms must be submitted by 4.00pm on Friday 4 April.

PARISH COUNCIL TO TACKLE SPEEDING

West Stockwith Parish Council is considering the use of speed detection equipment in the village. A 100m clear line of sight in either a 30 or 40mph speed restricted area is required, so areas on Canal Lane and Main Street are possible locations. A meeting has been held with Notts Police about cars driving at dangerous speeds so conversations are now taking place with the force to take this project forward.
