FREE FAMILY FUN DAY FOR CORONATION (+ pic)
To mark the Coronation of King Charles lll and Queen Camilla, there will be a free family fun day on Sunday 7 May on the Old School Field from 12 noon to 4.00pm. There’s a choice of catering: a ‘posh picnic’ by Chalet Girl (ring 07889 402889 to book at £20 a head), or enjoy a hog roast by Hepy, or bring your own picnic. There’s a bar or bring your own drinks. Free entertainment is by local band, The Unthinkables, with circus skills for children. There’s a raffle in aid of Misterton Parish Council’s local environmental projects and a tombola (in aid of Cancer Research).
There’s a competition for children to design – and wear – a crown with a prize for the best presented by outgoing Chair of the Parish Council, Tony Wing. And while there,
visit the community garden at the west end of the school field—a place for peace and reflection, created by supporters of Help Me, I’m Fine. The event is organised by Misterton parish Council’s Events Working Group. The event will be the same format as last year’s successful Platinum Jubilee fun day (pictured).
● Join the Parish Council’s ‘Clean for the Coronation’ on Saturday 29 April. Meet at The Misterton Centre at 10.00am: gloves and waste bags are all provided. The litter-pick is followed by refreshments for volunteers at the Red Hart. So, if you believe there are any areas that really need a little TLC, please contact the Clerk to the Council with details at theclerk@misterton-notts-pc.gov.uk or leave a message on 01427 890780. If you can’t make that date, spend a little time tidying up the front of your house: weeding, litter-picking, etc.
PARISH COUNCIL SUPPORTS YOUNG FOOTBALLERS
Parish councillors were pleased to hear that the village’s Junior Football Club is going from strength to strength. The Club is now fielding two junior league teams, one Under 8s and one Under 9s. Practice sessions are held during the week with home matches played on Sunday mornings. To help support the Club, at its March meeting the Parish Council agreed a £250 donation to help with the cost of kit and other Club expenditure.
NEW CRAFTERS’ ‘SPECIAL DEAL’ ON MARKET STALL
Saturday 15 April sees another of Retford’s Big Market Days with the Craft and Saturday markets running from 8.30am to 2.30pm, and the Farmers’ Market from 8.30a, until 1.00pm. The craft market is held in the Buttermarket. A single table can be booked online for £6.25 (bassetlaw.gov.uk search for Book a craft market stall at Retford Town Hall); two tables is £12.50. But for new crafters, there’s a special ‘deal’: share a table and get one-day insurance paid. For more information, contact 07725 768 392 on Thursday, Fridays, or Saturdays.
CORRECTION
A previous item about the two local residents, who had Bassetlaw Achievers Awards for their voluntary work, omitted to mention a third: Lynn Tupling of Misterton was given an award for her 25 years as Chief Executive of Bassetlaw Action Centre. Congratulations!
BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE
Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:
- community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
- housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
- a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
- the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
- Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
- home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service)
- minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.
BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, they are looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.

PARISH COUNCIL TO TACKLE SPEEDING
Representatives of West Stockwith Parish Council have met with the local PCSO to discuss the ongoing speeding problems on North Carr Road and elsewhere in the village. On the agenda was the introduction of a speedwatch scheme in West Stockwith. Two areas have been identified as suitable locations for the scheme: Main Street and Canal Lane. The Parish Council will buy the Speedwatch equipment then training ibn its use will follow before the scheme is introduced.
