VISIT LOCAL VILLAGE CHURCHES FOR CHARITY

Time to saddle up to raise funds for the Notts Historic Churches Trust by taking part in this year’s Ride & Stride on Saturday 9 September. It’s a chance to cycle, walk, ride on horseback… use any means of transport to attract sponsors and to visit churches; the total money raised is split between the Trust and the participating church you support. Visit as many as you can – set yourself a challenge. Can you visit all the churches in the Oswaldbeck Benefice: Beckingham, Clayworth, Gringley, Misterton (pictured), Walkeringham, and West Stockwith?

There are eight reasons to get involved:

  • saving beautiful buildings for the next generation
  • explore the fine heritage these special buildings have to offer…
  • … and you won’t have to travel far to see it
  • anyone can take part
  • get a physical and mental boost
  • come closer to nature, too
  • there’s a photography competition
  • and free refreshments!

For more information, go to: nottshistoricchurchestrust.org.uk/ridestride/

● Notts Historic Churches Trust has recently supported the refurbishment of the roof of St Mary’s Church with the promise of a substantial grant.

CHILDREN’S SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

Misterton Library is again taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge, this year called Ready, Set, Read! This national annual reading challenge aims to get children to read six library books over the summer. They receive rewards for every book they read and, in Nottinghamshire, every child who completes the challenge will get a medal and a certificate. The Challenge starts on Saturday 8 July, when the Library is open from 9.30am t 12.30pm. But children can join throughout the summer. The official end date is Sunday 3 September but this is flexible for those children who haven’t quite finished.

This year the Ready, Set, Read! team is trying to complete a summer obstacle course. The main challenge is aimed at children aged 4-11 but older children can join! There is a mini challenge for children aged 3 and under. This works in the same way. Call into the Library for further details: it’s open on Tuesday-Thursday afternoons from 2.00-5.00pm and on the 2nd and 4th Saturday morning, 9.30am – 12.30pm.
