LIBRARY LOOKING FOR MORE VOLUNTEERS (+ pic)

After several successful family events at Misterton Library over the summer, from this month it will open every Saturday from 9.30am to 12.30pm (as well as Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons from 2.00 – 5.00pm). This means more volunteers are needed to keep the Library open and services running. It doesn’t matter how much time you can give, but a regular commitment is preferred. Drop in to find out more, call 890646, or e-mail mistertonlibraryvolunteers@outlook.com.

Library services are delivered by volunteers (volunteer Roy Pearce is pictured) and Misterton Parish Council on behalf of Notts County Council and Inspire. The team of volunteers, who plan and put on the events, are keen to ensure the Library remains at the heart of the village life, whether that’s providing a warm space and hot drink in winter, somewhere to reminisce about the past, or free fun for children and families. If you have any ideas, pass them on.

● The next event is Halloween-themed and is on Tuesday 31 October. Activities will include face painting, crafts, games, and puppets linked to children reading books and acting out stories. Further details will be available nearer the time. But if last year’s ‘spooktacular’ was anything to go by, it was a good excuse to dress up!

CYCLING SKILLS WORKSHOP

There will be a cycling skills workshop and session on learning to ride on Monday 23 October at the Sports Ground, Marsh Lane, Misterton. There are two two-hour sessions, run by Clancy Briggs Cycling Academy, starting at 9.30am and 11.30am. To book a place, go to bit/ly/45XxBA5.

Sponsored by Bassetlaw District Council, the workshop is for children aged five to 16, who are beginners or completely new to cycling. There will be giveaways of cycling goodies and a chance to learn to ride safely or improve cycling skills.

PARISH CHURCH COUNCIL APPROVES REFURB PLANS

Plans for the refurbishment of Misterton Parish Church have taken a step forward with the Parochial Church Council approving a range of works:

  • underpinning the north wall, and work to the tower, with improvements to the north aisle and vestries
  • improvements to the south aisle to create a heritage and history area
  • improvements to the church and choir with state-of-the-art audio-video, lighting, chairs, community performance area
  • repairs to the bell frame and investigation into additional bells and ringing gallery
  • investigation into use of solar panels and other energy saving actions
  • funding applications
  • raising funds for match-funding for these the works and applications for faculties (planning permission) to support the plan.

CHRISTMAS SHOEBOX APPEAL

With Christmas 'stuff' already in the shops, it's time to start thinking about putting together a shoebox of goodies for children in war-torn countries or those facing natural disasters. Just take an ordinary shoebox, pack it with toys, personal care items, school supplies, and accessories (but not sweets, toothpaste, guns, religious or political literature). Please include a £5 note to help with distribution costs.

Take the shoebox into the Parish Church no later than Monday 13 November for a local volunteer to deliver it to a regional collection centre. To find out more, head into Misterton Parish Church and pick up a leaflet or go to: www.samaritans-purse.org.uk
