REVIEW OF NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN SUBMITTED

The Misterton Review Neighbourhood Plan (MRNP) was submitted to the District Council for examination on Wednesday 13 September. This means that work done to include new policies on housing design, green spaces, key views, and windfall development will be forwarded to be considered by an independent examiner.

The document is available on the District Council's and Parish Council's websites.

The Neighbourhood Plan (NP) was approved by a majority voting in a referendum in 2019. Periodic reviews are required and work on this Review NP has introduced new policies while not changing the original five development sites that had been agreed. The inclusion of any new sites will come when the District Council issues a ‘call for sites’ as it did in 2016. Meanwhile, experience of using the NP in determining planning applications pointed to areas for improvement and new policies based on what other villages have done, which have now been included in the Review NP.

ANNUAL SHOW ATTRACTS SCORES OF ENTRIES (+ pic)

The Annual Show, organised by Misterton Gardeners Club, attracted scores of entries across a range of classes: from fruit and vegetables to arts and crafts. Held in the Methodist Hall (Saturday 9 September), there was keen competition for the top prizes – and some entries from youngsters, too. Pictured is the winning entry in the class for a flower arrangement in an unusual container, entered by Joanne Moss. Allotment gardener, Susan Hayter, swept the board with prizes for fruit and veg, and the Best in Show exhibit was won by Hazel Brand for her harvest-themed painting. Many thanks to the Gardeners Club for reviving the Show after the pandemic and to all who entered. Get ready now for next year’s Show!

WORRIED ABOUT SPEEDING IN THE VILLAGE?

Misterton Parish Council receives frequent complaints about vehicles speeding through the village. These complaints often feature in social media, too. Now the Parish Council is looking at re-launching a Community Speedwatch scheme – but needs volunteers. The Parish Council will buy the equipment; Notts Police will advise on members’ preferred locations for monitoring speeds, and will train volunteers.

Notts Police write to offending drivers. Should drivers’ names appear multiple times, they are visited by the Police. Should the evidence provided show a pattern of bad driving behaviour, then the police will visit and complete the enforcement. Volunteers decide their own schedule of speed monitoring so, with enough volunteers, this could be just an hour a week. So, to volunteer, contact The Misterton Centre on 890646 and put your name forward. Don’t just complain about speeding, help tackle the problem!

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH-ON: SANTA WANTED!

Misterton Parish Council and Parish Church have agreed the details of the annual switch-on of the Christmas lights but, so far, have no Santa! If you can give up a couple of hours, please get in touch with the Parish Council (890646). A beard is optional – the Parish Council can supply one! The event is on Friday 1 December from 6.00-8.00pm, on Church Meadow. This year, there will be more Christmas trees on Church Meadow and a Christmas Tree Festival in the Parish Church. To enter a tree, bring it to the Parish Church between 2.00-4.00pm on Friday 1 December. Dress it in any way you wish. The height of the tree should not be more than four feet (1.25metres). Any lights should be battery powered. Please include the name of your organisation or business on a sheet of card or paper no bigger than A4, with any other information you want to give; this will be displayed with the tree. Once again, there's a chance to win a prize for the best-dressed tree.

There’s another chance for people to see the Christmas Tree entries on Saturday 2 December (during the Church’s annual Christmas Coffee Morning from 10.00am to 12 noon).
