NEW CHILDREN’S ACTIVITY AT MISTERTON LIBRARY
Beginning on Wednesday 1 November, then every Wednesday, the Rhyme Time session for pre-school children and their families re-starts. Held at Misterton Library from 2.30 to 3.15pm, the free sessions will include songs, rhymes, fun for the children and time for grown-ups to chat.
SCHOOL’S HARVEST FESTIVAL (+ pic)
Misterton Methodist Church will host the village school’s Harvest Festival on Monday 9 October. Children are invited to bring non-perishable food, which will be passed on to Bassetlaw Food Bank. Particularly needed now are rice, tinned tomatoes and sweetcorn, soup, porridge sachets, jam, rice pudding, tinned meat, shampoo and conditioner, and cleaning products. As well as delivering food parcels to needy people, the Food Bank also runs the mobile community shop, which aims to support Bassetlaw’s rural communities in times of hardship and create better access to affordable food. The distinctive yellow van visits Misterton on Thursday mornings, parking outside Misterton Parish Church.
BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE
Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:
- community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
- housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
- a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
- the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
- Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
- home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service)
- minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.
BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, BAC is looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.
For further details on any of the above please contact BAC on 01777 709650 or by e-mail (enquiries@actioncentre.org.uk) Further information can be found on the website: www.bassetlawactioncentre.org.uk.

WEST STOCKWITH NEWS
Thursday 5 October 2023
Contact: 01427 891376
CHURCH CONTINUES FUNDRAISING TO SAVE THE BUILDING
West Stockwith’s parish church will be beginning the second phase of major works with the interior decoration. But some damp-proofing will be necessary – and while the inside of the Georgian building is stripped of its old paintwork and the pews moved into storage, areas of damp will be treated and the floor sanded and treated. The Parochial Church Council is seeking quotes for the work; once received, the next step is to apply for a faculty (planning permission).
