CONCERT ATTRACTS CAPACITY AUDIENCE (+ pic)
Misterton Parish Church was almost full to capacity as an appreciative audience came to hear big band, Room 21 (pictured). Playing a selection of well-known, toe-tapping favourites, Room 21 attracted an enthusiastic audience and, after expenses, the proceeds were divided equally between the band and the Parish Church, each receiving £350. The band has been asked to come back next October, such was its popularity!
BABWORTH ARTS FESTIVAL INVITES EXHIBITORS
The theme of this year’s Babworth arts festival is ‘Heritage & Home’. It is on in Babworth Parish Church. Exhibits should be taken to the Church between 12 noon and 3.00pm on Friday 17 November. Any medium may be used – and artists and crafters are asked to briefly describe their work, giving their name, media used, title, and whether it is for sale. Anyone may exhibit – there is no fee and no selection process. No commission is charged on items sold. The exhibition is open on Saturday 18 November from 10.00am to 4.00pm and on Sunday 19 November from 12 noon to 4.00pm.
BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE
Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:
- community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
- housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
- a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
- the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
- Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
- home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service)
- minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.
BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, BAC is looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.
For further details on any of the above please contact BAC on 01777 709650 or by e-mail (enquiries@actioncentre.org.uk) Further information can be found on the website: www.bassetlawactioncentre.org.uk.

WEST STOCKWITH NEWS
Thursday 19 October 2023

PARISH CHURCH CELEBRATES WITH ANNUAL HARVEST FESTIVAL
West Stockwith Parish Church holds its annual Harvest Festival on Sunday 29 October at 11.00am. All are welcome to celebrate bringing in the harvest – donations of fresh or tinned, bottled, canned, or packeted food are welcome and will be donated to Bassetlaw Food Bank. So far, the village, with help from neighbouring communities, has given over 4300 bags of provisions to the Food Bank. With the cost-of-living crisis and the recent closure of major employer, Wilko, in Bassetlaw, the Food Bank is seeing an increase in demand. Thanks to all those who regularly give to this good cause.
CHRISTMAS EVENT: CHANGE OF DATE
As the Salvation Army band had double-booked, the date of the village Christmas event has been changed to Sunday 10 December. Meet in the Parish Church at 1.00pm for carols and seasonal refreshments, then to the White Hart for more festive fun!
● Create your own Christmas wreath at a workshop in the Gertrude Morris Memorial Hall on Thursday 7 December at 7.00pm. The cost is £22.00 per person (£12.00 non-refundable deposit required when booking) and all materials are supplied - but please bring your own secateurs. Sherry/fruit juice and a mince pie are included. Places are limited so book early! Contact Sue Harford on 07789 545908 or e-mail sue.harford@outlook.com. This is a fundraising event in support of West Stockwith Village Hall
PARISH COUNCIL’S RENOVATION PLANS
West Stockwith Parish Council plans to renovate two iconic features of the village: the historic finger-post at the junction of Ings Land and Main Street and the anchor in the garden on Canal Lane. The Clerk and members of the Council are looking into costs and the best way to refurbish these village features.
The Parish Council will review the play area at Malt Kiln; if necessary, a new surface could be laid. The equipment is regularly checked by an outdoor playground equipment supplier.
