CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH-ON (+ pic)

This year’s Christmas lights switch-on is Friday 1 December at 6.00pm on Church Meadow. And there's the Christmas Tree Festival, too, in the Parish Church. Santa will be coming to switch on the lights. There will be a brass band and stalls. If you want one, contact Nikki on nikki.jaggard-smith@misterton-notts-pc.gov.uk. There’s free mulled wine and drinks for kids, courtesy of the Parish Council.

Everyone is invited to enter the Christmas Tree competition (pictured is last year’s winner). Dress a Christmas tree, which will be on display in the Parish Church from Friday 1 December for the weekend. Dress the tree in any way you wish as long as it has a Christmas theme! The height of the tree should not be more than four feet (1.25metres). Any lights should be battery powered. Please include the name of your organisation or business on a sheet of card or paper no bigger than A4, with any other information you want to give; this will be displayed with the tree. There's a chance to win a prize for the best-dressed tree. Bring the tree to the Church on Friday 1 December between 2.00-4.00pm.

● There’s another chance to see the Christmas Tree entries on Saturday 2 December (during the Church’s annual Christmas Coffee Morning from 10.00am to 12noon).

HARVEST FESTIVALS GIVE DONATIONS TO FOOD BANK

Organisations in Misterton have all given the donations presented at their Harvest Festivals to Bassetlaw Food Bank. Seventeen bags of provisions went from the Primary School, with another 12 from the Parish Church and more from the Methodist Church.

● A Coffee Morning in early October raised funds for three charities. £125 was given to each:  Five Villages First Responders, Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, and Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.

LIBRARY HOSTS ‘MISTERTON REMEMBERS’ EXHIBITION

Misterton Library is recruiting more volunteers to help keep the village facility alive and thriving. There is a recruitment afternoon on Thursday 9 November from 2.00-5.00pm, accompanied by an exhibition, Misterton Remembers… the 1940s. Local historian, David Seymour will give a talk on the village in the post-war years. The exhibition will remain in the Library until the session on Saturday 18 November ends

The exhibition and illustrated talk isn’t just for potential volunteers – anyone can call in. But if you have a few hours to spare each month, come along and find out more. Learn new skills, get some work experience, make new friends – there’s a lot on offer and just a few hours a week will mean that the Library can stay open and expand the activities on offer.

BABWORTH ARTS FESTIVAL INVITES EXHIBITORS

The theme of this year’s Babworth arts festival is ‘Heritage & Home’. It is on in Babworth Parish Church. Exhibits should be taken to the Church between 12 noon and 3.00pm on Friday 17 November. Any medium may be used – and artists and crafters are asked to briefly describe their work, giving their name, media used, title, and whether it is for sale. Anyone may exhibit – there is no fee and no selection process. No commission is charged on items sold. The exhibition is open on Saturday 18 November from 10.00am to 4.00pm and on Sunday 19 November from 12 noon to 4.00pm.
