LEARN TO CYCLE SAFELY

There’s a workshop on Thursday 11 April for children aged 5 to 16 years to learn to ride their bikes safely. The event is on the Sports Field (in the ball court), with two sessions at 9.30-11.00am then 11.00am-12.30pm. The session is sponsored by Bassetlaw District Council (BDC). For further details, use the QR code on posters on village notice boards, or ring 01909 533 533.

ELECTRIC BLANKET SAFETY

Nottinghamshire Trading Standards have produced an advice leaflet on electric blanket safety following several incidents within Nottinghamshire where old or faulty electric blankets have been the cause of house fires. Please see the attached leaflet and if you have any doubts about your own blanket, stop using it immediately.

POLICE TEAMS TO TACKLE SHOP THEFT

On Tuesday 26 March, police in Bassetlaw will be carrying out a Safer Business Action Day, led by Ollie Vale from the Neighbourhood hub. Alongside the Police’s partner, BID (Bassetlaw Improvement District), there will be engagement stands in both Retford and Worksop for businesses to come and get some support to tackle business crime. In addition, police teams will be out speaking to shops and carrying out their usual tactics of plain clothes and uniformed work to tackle shop theft. Anyone wanting further information should contact Ollie Vale on oliver.vale@notts.police.uk

EASTER EGG HUNT

Shops, bars, and other premises in Retford are holding an Easter Egg Hunt from Monday 4-Saturday 30 March. Focussed around the town centre, entry forms are now available from the Baytree Bistro, Chameleon Fancy Dress, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Linx Black Belt Academy, Nicole Cakes, Pennington’s, Retford Arts Hub, Ten Green Bottles, The Pottery, and Wonderland Bookshop. Entries must be in by noon on Saturday 30 March; the box for prize draw entries is in Edinburgh Woollen Mill.

● Misterton Library volunteers are planning another Easter extravaganza, this year with rabbits. So watch out for further details.

VILLAGE BOUNDARIES MAY CHANGE

New boundaries of the Misterton Ward (Misterton and West Stockwith) could be the outcome for Bassetlaw District Council, based on the review by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE).

The LGBCE has decided that the number of councillors in Bassetlaw should remain at 48, but boundaries may change. So LGBCE wants to hear what residents and organisations think about their local area. The Commission is interested in views on which communities should be part of the same ward. What facilities do people share, such as parks, leisure centres or schools and shopping areas? What issues do neighbouring communities face that they have in common, such as high numbers of visitors or heavy traffic? Have there been new housing or commercial developments that have changed the focus of communities? And are there roads, rivers, railways or other features that people believe form strong boundaries between neighbourhoods?

The Commission will use local views to help it draw up proposals for new ward boundaries. There will be a further round of consultation once the Commission has drawn up those proposals. A 10-week consultation inviting proposals will run until 29 April 2024.

The number of councillors will remain the same (48) by LGBCE is reviewing Bassetlaw to ensure councillors represent about the same number of electors. It wants to be sure that its proposals reflect community ties and identities. People can give their views via the LGBCE website at www.lgbce.org.uk/all-reviews/bassetlaw, e-mail reviews@lgbce.org.uk, or write to: Review Officer (Bassetlaw), LGBCE, PO Box 133, Blyth NE24 9FE.
