SAFE CYCLING FOR CHILDREN (+ pic)

The District Council held a safe cycling session for children at the muti-use ball court on the Misterton Sports Ground last month. Supported by Clancy Briggs Cycling Academy, dozens of young riders from across Bassetlaw were shown how to ride—and stop—safely. District Cllr Lynne Schuller, who heads up the Health & Wellbeing portfolio, said: “Cycling, we all know, is a great way to get and stay healthy and a good way to stay connected. Learning the skill early in life helps to adopt healthy habits and have fun keeping fit. It was really good to hear excited children proudly sharing how they can now ride a bike. This safe supportive session helped in not just bike riding but increasing confidence.”

CHARITY EVENT FOR BRITISH RED CROSS

Ellicar Gardens, in the neighbouring parish of Gringley, opens to raise money for

British Red Cross on Friday 21 June from 11.00am-4.00pm. Go along for a cup of artisan coffee and slice of delicious home-baked cake. Explore the five-acre, naturalistic, wildlife-friendly gardens. Relax beside the natural swimming pool and say ‘Hello’ to the rare breed pets and Golden Guernsey goats. To find out more and for directions, see www.ellicar.co.uk or visit the Facebook page @Ellicar Pools and Landscapes.

PARKING AT THE PHARMACY

Residents have complained to the Parish Council about inconsiderate parking outside the pharmacy on Marsh Lane. Until the owners sort out and re-open their car park, please park on one side of the road only in the vicinity of the pharmacy. This means that large vehicles, buses, and fire appliances can use the highway with ease.

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE

Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:

  • community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
  • housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
  • a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
  • the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
  • Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
  • home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service)

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, BAC is looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.
