New Dementia Connect Service begins April 2022

Live zoom sessions will be taking place over the next few weeks to promote the launch of the new Dementia Wellbeing Service operating across Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City. Dementia Connect, from Alzheimer’s Society, has been commissioned by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust  to provide a personalised Community Dementia Support Service. Whether it's at point of diagnosis, or someone needs support further along in their dementia journey, you can quickly and easily put people in touch with a Dementia Advisor. It connects anyone living with dementia to the support they need - it's not just people with dementia, but their carers, family and friends too.

Re-shaping Health Services

NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have launched their next phase of public engagement on proposals to transform hospital services in Nottingham. Here is a link to our Engagement Document which will provide more information.  If you require a hard copy of the document then please contact us on the email below or call 07385 360071.

These proposals are part of what we are calling the Reshaping Health Services in Nottinghamshire Programme (RHSN). This plan aims to secure Government funding to invest in our local hospital services so that they are better set up to meet people’s needs and improve people’s health and wellbeing.

The part of our plan that we are talking to the public about is called Tomorrow’s NUH (TNUH), focused in services provided by Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) NHS Trust. This involves all the health and care organisations in our area working together to create hospital services that meet the needs of local people now and in the future.

We have recently launched a public survey and are holding a programme of virtual public events to enable people to have their say together with a number of virtual workshops/focus groups.

For further information and details of our online events, see the link below:-

We are also offering an opportunity to talk to any groups who may be interested in finding out more information and providing us with their feedback.  If you are currently meeting virtually or face to face and would be interested to find out more then please do not hesitate to contact our Engagement Team at nnccg.engagment.team@nhs.net

FIT MAGPIES

Free 12-week health project, FIT Magpies, is starting again on w/c 4th April 2022.

FIT Magpies looks to tackle physical inactivity and obesity in adults with behaviour change at the core of the programme. Since the commencement of the programme in 2020 we had over 100 participants complete the course with an average weight loss of 5.5kg. The project is free and open to males and females aged 35 – 65 who have a BMI of 28+ and/or a waistline of 38 inches (male) or 31 inches (female) looking to lose weight, get fitter and lead a more active life.

Participants are supported through their journey by a qualified and dedicated team of coaches who ensure every person feels included, motivated, and empowered to reach their targets. Each 90-minute session includes a physical activity session that introduces all participants to simple, effective ways of exercising (e.g. walking football, circuit training, aerobics, group walks etc.) some of which they can continue in their own time.

Classroom sessions cover relevant topics such as the Eatwell Guide, take-aways, alcohol, portion sizes, and food labels. Participants receive a workbook that enables them to set targets, review their progress, and highlights areas for further reading.

Groups that will be held at the Portland Centre and Henry Mellish Sports Centre from 5:00 – 7:00pm by sending the attached leaflet and registration through to any relevant contacts, mailing lists or interested parties (including friends and family!) This programme has been running in Scotland since 2010 and has had over £1m of research conducted by NIHR to prove its effectiveness in behaviour change and improving the health and wellbeing of the target population. See flyers for more information.
