Nottinghamshire County Council: PPE use when caring for vulnerable people
At this time of year there will be higher levels of Covid-19 and other respiratory infections like flu circulating in the community. These can be very dangerous for people who are elderly or have underlying health conditions or weakened immune systems.
Wearing the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while providing care can reduce the risk of spreading infection, especially when spending more time indoors in the colder weather, and also help to keep you and those you care for safe and well. Advice on the PPE you should use, and how to use it, is available on the Notts Help Yourself website.
The Department of Health and Social Care is still supplying PPE free of charge to:
- Personal assistants (local authority, clinical commissioning group commissioned, funded through personal health budgets and self-funded)
- Direct payment recipients
- Unpaid carers who do not live with the individual they care for (including people caring for family members, if they do not live together).
You can order free PPE from the national portal by registering at the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Portal or calling the customer services team on 0800 876 6802 (Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm).
