Opportunity Description: We are seeking volunteer drivers to operate our mobile clinic which is a Peugeot Boxer based coach built conversion van. It is a Group B (car licence) category vehicle. Our insurers stipulate certain driver requirements which are detailed in the Role Description.

The role will entail collecting the vehicle from its base location, this venue is currently Mansfield, but Worksop is also used. Your convenience can be taken into account as to parking the vehicle, according to planned deployments and your travel necessities.

The vehicle is then sited at a suitable location around the county e.g. West Bridgford, Eastwood, Harworth, Newark. The clinic is staffed for purposes of service delivery by members of our Harm Reduction team, Medics, or Outreach workers. You could be involved with service delivery if it is something you would like to progress into, and for which you have a proficiency.

At the end of a working session (typically half days) you would then return the vehicle to its base and ready it for its next planned deployment.

There is pre deployment planning, preparation and negotiation required, particularly when utilising a new venue.
Type of Activity: Advice, Information & Support, Driving, Outdoors
Areas of Interest: Addictions
Skills: Practical, Interpersonal
Who we are looking for: We are looking for a health and safety conscious person, and a considerate road user to drive our professionally converted Peugeot mobile clinic vehicle to and from venues where we reduce the harm caused by substance misuse. We offer advice, and equipment to enable people to keep themselves safe. We promote and deliver
Needle Exchange services, dispense Naloxone (an emergency counter overdose drug) and conduct Dry Blood Spot Testing (to detect Hepatitis and enable early
treatment). We also engage with injecting drug users, advising of the benefits of testing, and safer sexual health advice.

As our volunteer driver, you’ll plan the logistics for safe parking, and checking the vehicle is fit for use on the road, arranging for or reporting defects, e.g. tyre
replacements etc. You will need to pre plan and on occasion negotiate with staff who own or control the land we propose operating from (for example for premises access purposes, and to park appropriately on level ground).

Although the vehicle is group B for licensing purposes, it would be an advantage if you have experience of driving and manoeuvring vehicles considerably larger than saloon sized cars.
