Opportunity Description: • Event information – The Newark Dragon Boat Festival is a fundraising event organised jointly by two local charities the Children’s Bereavement Centre and Beaumond House. This year will be the fifth year we have organised the event and it has become one of the largest events in the local area attended by local families and businesses. Not only is it a great day out its also the largest fundraiser of the year for both charities who provide their services free of charge to the local community. We need approx. 80 volunteers to be able to run the event and any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. We can promise you a great day out with lots of fun, the opportunity to meets lots of people as well as that warm fuzzy feeling of knowing you are helping to support not one but two much needed local charities

Who we are looking for: Duties include
o River marshalling – standing along the river to keep people away from the edge
o Litter picking and event field Marshall – litter picking equipment will be provided
o Running stands like coconut shy and picking up coconuts etc, Supporting someone managing stands like a coconut shy, picking up coconuts after each throw
o Standing at the information point to give out event maps and info
o Volunteer support – taking drinks and snacks to volunteers that cant leave their posts


Skills
o Confident enough to speak to the general public
o If anyone has experience marshalling events and using a radio that would be helpful for some roles but not essential

Practical considerations: Date – Sunday September 15th, 2024
Times – 5 shifts, 3 while event is on and 2 set up and clear down
o 7am to 9.30am – set up
o 9am to 12.30pm – event open
o 12noon to 3.30pm – event open
o 3pm to 6pm – event open
o 5pm to 7.30pm – pack down
Location – Riverside Park, Newark, Notts, NG24
Car Parking – Free for volunteers, subject to space

Expenses details: • Refreshments – There will be a volunteer gazebo on site which will have tea/coffee/water/snacks/ fruit crisps etc which everyone can help themselves top
Any Age/Gender restrictions: Over 18s
Induction Arrangments: • Information and equipment – A volunteer briefing will be held at the beginning of each shift and all equipment required will be provided together with a high vis vest and event lanyard for identification purposes
Any Other Arrangements: • Security – There will be paid security staff on site for the duration of the event so there will be no requirement to deal with any anti social behaviour
