HARVEST SUPPER NETS FUNDS FOR CHURCH (+ pic)
West Stockwith’s Harvest Supper (Friday 11 October), held in the Village Hall, raised £1236 after paying for the hire of the Hall. Pictured is Jonathan Downes, Chair of West Stockwith Parish Council, auctioning gifts of produce. The successful evening comes on top of 10 carrier bags of provisions taken to Bassetlaw Food Bank following the Parish Church’s Harvest Festival (Sunday 29 September). This brings the number of bags taken to the Food Bank from West Stockwith, Misterton, and surrounding villages, to over 4400. Many thanks to all who supported this annual traditional festival.
HOUSING REPORT FOR TENANTS
Council tenants will shortly receive a copy of the Housing Department’s Annual Report, It will show that Bassetlaw Housing is the top-performing landlord in a survey of 221 English landlords (including councils). The survey spoke to 633 randomly-selected tenants for their perceptions of the housing service. The Council is also fully compliant on all five measures for building safety. There were 146 complaints in 2023/24 against a total of over 60,000 contacts with the Housing Service.
Tenants have access to a 24-hour, confidential, free facility – the Tenant Support & Wellbeing service – which can provide information on, or signpost to, advice on financial, legal, or health/mental health matters. The freephone number is 0330 094 8845 or website www.tsws-assist.co.uk (for Council tenants only).
BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE
Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:
- community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
- housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
- a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
- the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
- Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
- home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service)
- minibus trips – including the newly-launched lunch club trips.
BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, BAC is looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.
