CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH-ON (+ pic)

This year’s Christmas lights switch-on is Friday 6 December at 6.00pm on Church Meadow. And there's the Christmas Tree Festival, too, in the Parish Church. Santa will be there, along with a brass band and stalls. If you want one, contact Nikki on nikki.jaggard-smith@misterton-notts-pc.gov.uk. There’s free mulled wine and drinks for kids, courtesy of the Parish Council.

Everyone is invited to enter the Christmas Tree competition. Pictured is Chair of the Parish Council, Cllr Peter Marsden, with last year’s winner. Dress a Christmas tree, which will be on display in the Parish Church from Friday 6 December for the weekend. Dress it in any way you wish! The height of the tree should not be more than four feet (1.25metres). Any lights should be battery powered. Please include the name of your organisation or business on a sheet of card or paper no bigger than A4, with any other information you want to give; this will be displayed with the tree. There's a chance to win a prize for the best-dressed tree. Bring the tree to the Church on Friday 6 December between 2.00-4.00pm.

● There’s another chance to see the Christmas Tree entries on Saturday 7 December (during the Parish Church’s annual Christmas Coffee Morning from 10.00am to 12noon).

CEMETERY RAILINGS REMOVED

The rusty railings at the front of the Haxey Road Cemetery have been removed – and the Cemetery looks all the better for it. The railings, erected in 1913, would have cost some £90,000 to refurbish and repair and the Burial Committee thought the money could be better spent. In addition to removing the railings, an ash tree, suffering from ash die-back, has been felled. The tree was close to the road and would have been a threat to road users and visitors to the Cemetery. New trees will be planted in its place.

VOLUNTEER FOOTPATH WARDENS WANTED

Do you regularly walk a footpath in the village? Before the Covid pandemic, the Parish Council had a number of volunteer ‘footpath wardens’. They would walk the footpaths around the village and report any problems.

Although this fell by the wayside during the pandemic, the Parish Council is now keen to resurrect this initiative. It is looking for new volunteers. You don’t need to walk any footpaths you don’t normally use, and simply report any issues you find to the Parish Council (in person or by e-mail). The Parish Council will then report problems to Notts County Council, which is responsible for footpaths. This will help ensure our local footpaths are kept in good condition and free from obstructions. If you are happy to volunteer, please contact the Clerk at theclerk@misterton-notts-pc.gov.uk or pop into The Misterton Centre & Library and ask for details from the Administrator, Natalie Palmer.

CAROL SINGERS WANTED!

December’s run-up to Christmas will begin in style when the Salvation Army band visits the village on Sunday 1 December. The band will play in the Parish Church from 1.00pm, where light refreshments will be served. Time-permitting, the musicians will then entertain customers in the White Hart.

Then carol singers will also visit various locations in the village – if there are enough singers. If you’d like to join the carollers to bring a little seasonal cheer to those who might be housebound, call Churchwarden, Steph, on 07500 043 842.
