MOBILE SHOP DATES
The mobile shop, run by Bassetlaw Food Bank, will not be visiting the village during the two weeks over Christmas and New Year. For anyone wanting to donate, although the Worksop depot is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day, donations can be left in the basket at Misterton Co-op or in the box provided at Misterton Parish Church and will be taken to Worksop. So far, 6441 bags of provisions have been given to the Food Bank from the village – with a little help from neighbouring churches and Beckingham school.
CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL (+ pic)
Everyone is invited to enter the village’s Christmas Tree competition. Dress a Christmas tree, which will be on display in the Parish Church from 6.00pm on Friday 6 December, when the Christmas lights switch-on begins, for the weekend. Dress a tree or create one in any way you wish! The height of the tree should not be more than four feet (1.25metres). Any lights should be battery powered. Please include the name of your organisation or business on a sheet of card or paper no bigger than A4, with any other information you want to give; this will be displayed with the tree. There's a chance to win a prize for the best-dressed tree. Bring the tree to the Church on Friday 6 December between 2.00-4.00pm. Pictured is a selection of trees last Christmas.
● There’s another chance to see the Christmas Tree entries on Saturday 7 December (during the Parish Church’s annual Christmas Coffee Morning from 10.00am to 12noon).
KERBSIDE GLASS AND FOOD WASTE COLLECTIONS PROPOSED
Bassetlaw District Council is proposing to introduce new kerbside glass collections, and weekly food waste collections, for residents. Cabinet members will meet on Tuesday 26 November to look at the proposals, which should mean residents, especially those in rural areas or who have limited access to transport, won’t need to travel to recycle their glass, while helping the Council meet its legal requirements on recycling.
Under the plans, every household would receive a new 180 litre glass recycling bin, which will be smaller than the current blue and green bins and easier to handle than a box, with collections potentially taking place every six weeks. Before any glass collection scheme can begin, the Council will have to order three specialised collection lorries and 57,000 new bins at a cost of £1.5m, while more staff will also need to be recruited. Meanwhile, the running costs of the scheme are predicted to be met by the resale price of glass and the value given to recycling it.
According to the Simpler Recycling regulations, published by DEFRA in 2023, all local authorities in England must collect the same recyclable waste, including glass and food waste, from households. The Council’s deadline for providing kerbside glass collections is April 2026, while it has until October 2027 to provide weekly kerbside food waste collections. A further update report to Cabinet on plans for food waste collections is proposed in October 2025.
