CROWDS TURN OUT FOR LIGHTS SWITCH-ON (+ pic)

Despite a mixed weather forecast, residents turned out in force for Misterton Parish Council’s annual Christmas lights switch-on (Friday 1 December). Harworth Brass Band got everyone in the mood for the count-down when Santa switched on the lights. He then holed up in his grotto with plenty of ho-ho-hos! In the Parish Church were a bumper 19 entries to the Christmas Tree Festival. The winner of the best-dressed tree was Misterton Gardeners Club. Pictured is Chair of Misterton Parish Council, Cllr Peter Marsden, who judged the entries, with the winning tree. There were so many excellent entries that a last-minute addition of a second prize went to Misterton Bowls Club Congratulations to all entrants – such was the quality of entries, next year there will be more prizes.

The raffle raised £240, to be divided between the Parish Church and Misterton School. Many thanks to all who donated prizes, had a stall – and just turned up on an otherwise miserable evening.

BIN COLLECTION DATES

Wheelie bins will be emptied on the following dates over the Christmas/New Year period:

  • Wednesday 25 December moves to Friday 27 December
  • Wednesday 1 January moves to   Friday 3 January
  • Wednesday 8 January moves to Thursday 9 January.

From Wednesday 15 January, collection returns to normal.

l It’s not too late to sign up for garden waste collections (brown bins) for 2025, which run from the beginning of March to the end of November. Go to Bassetlaw District Council’s website (www.bassetlaw.gov.uk) and search for garden waste. There is an online booking form.

REMEMBER A LOVED ONE THIS CHRISTMAS

Leave a message to or for someone you’ve loved and maybe lost this year on the Memory Tree in Misterton Parish Church. Gift tags are supplied - and all those named on the tree will be remembered in prayers at 2024’s last service of the year at Misterton Parish Church on Christmas Day (Sunday 25 December). The Memory Tree is up and ready for messages. A small donation to the work of the Parish Church is appreciated. Leave it in the secure Offertory Box by the magazine rack.

SENIOR CITIZEN’S LUNCH & ENTERTAINMENT

Misterton’s annual lunch and entertainment for those of retirement age and above is on Saturday 18 January. Those who have been before will automatically get an invitation. Newcomers to the village – or the newly retired – should contact Nikki (phone 891629 or e-mail nikkijaggard@gmail.com) for an invitation. The venue is the Methodist Hall and details will be circulated shortly.
