MISTERTON LIBRARY LAUNCHES NEW SERVICE
Volunteers at Misterton Library are launching a new service in January – a jigsaw puzzle exchange. Details of the jigsaw loan service will follow – so instead of buying a new puzzle, pop along to the jigsaw exchange and swap one you’ve done for a new one.
● Save the wrappers from your Christmas sweets and drop them into The Misterton Centre & Library. Volunteers will be using them in the January family craft session (Saturday 11 January) to make collages.
NOMINATE A BASSETLAW ACHIEVER
It’s time to nominate a person(s) for a Bassetlaw Achievers Award 2025. If you would like to nominate anyone person or a group for the Bassetlaw Achievers Awards, complete the form on the Bassetlaw District Council website or contact District Cllr Hazel Brand for a copy.
Awards are given to Bassetlaw people who are serving the community by their efforts for charity; for individual achievements; for sport or group activities, or to those who have overcome adversity to lead a normal life. The closing date for nominations is Friday 7 February.
BIN COLLECTION DATES
The remaining date for a change to the wheelie bins collection is Wednesday 8 January moving to Thursday 9 January. From Wednesday 15 January, collection returns to normal.
l It’s not too late to sign up for garden waste collections (brown bins) for 2025, which run from the beginning of March to the end of November. Go to Bassetlaw District Council’s website (www.bassetlaw.gov.uk) and search for garden waste. There is an online booking form.
BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE
Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:
- community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
- housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
- a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
- the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
- Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
- home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service)
- minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.
BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, BAC is looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.
For further details on any of the above please contact BAC on 01777 709650 or by e-mail (enquiries@actioncentre.org.uk). Further information can be found on the website: www.bassetlawactioncentre.org.uk.

CHRISTMAS GOSPEL CHOIR RAISES FUNDS FOR VILLAGE CHURCH (+ pic)
In the second of two pre-Christmas events, St Mary’s Parish Church was packed as villagers came to hear Across the Divide, a gospel choir (pictured). Around £1000 was raised for the village’s place of worship – and special thanks go to Sean and Margaret for facilitating the concert, and the White Hart for its support. Earlier in December, the Parish Church hosted the Salvation Army band, which helped villagers start the count-down to Christmas with a concert and carol singing. It raised £170 for the Church.
COMMUNITY GRANTS
For the new municipal year (2024/25), District councillors have again each been given a £1000 grant fund. Cllr Hazel Brand has just £250 left so get an application form from The Misterton Centre and get an application to Cllr Brand. Application forms, giving the eligibility criteria for grants, are available from The Misterton Centre (ring 890646 or e-mail themistertoncentre@outlook.com). There have been no applications from West Stockwith this year so it would be good to see an
application from the village.
