LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO KEEP CEMETERY TIDY (+ pic)
The Misterton & West Stockwith Burial Committee is looking to recruit a number of volunteers to help look after the Cemetery on Haxey Road and the Remembrance Garden at the Church Lane entrance to the church yard.
To help keep these areas clean and tidy, we are looking for volunteers who could spare just a few hours a month to carry out some of the tasks listed below. Volunteers can do as much or as little as suits them, either individually or with friends. Tasks include picking up litter, picking up fallen twigs and small branches, clearing headstones of grass and ivy, etc, tending older graves where there are no relatives.
Volunteers’ participation can make a real difference in helping to keep the Cemetery and Remembrance Garden sanctuaries of reflection in a beautiful, well-kept environment. To register your interest, please contact the Parish Clerk, Angela Harrison, by e-mailing theclerk@misterton-notts-pc.gov.uk or telephone 01427 890780. Alternatively leave your name and contact details at The Misterton Centre
BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE
Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:
- community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
- housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
- a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
- the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
- Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
- home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service)
- minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.
BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, BAC is looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.

MULTI-MEDIA CONCERT IN PARISH CHURCH
A unique concert, featuring a film score and silent movie, will be performed in St Mary’s Parish Church on Thursday 3 April at 7.30pm. The concert, by the Isle of Axholme Orchestra, features Eisenstein’s 1925 classic silent movie, considered to be one of the great masterpieces of the silent movie era. The Isle of Axholme Orchestra plays a brand-new orchestral soundtrack, specially composed by Robert Steadman to accompany a screening of the movie, which is PG rated.
The evening will also include music by Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky. Tickets are £8, available online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/ioax. For those not used to buying online, or not able to, tickets will also be available at the door.
PARISH CHURCH’S ELECTORAL ROLL
Every six years, the Parish Church must review its Electoral Roll and start a new one. This is different from the District Council’s Electoral Roll – the Church’s Electoral Roll is the Parish Church’s register of electors. In the same way that being on the civic Electoral Roll allows you to vote in parliamentary and local elections, joining the Church Electoral Roll means that you can vote on Church matters, attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) and stand for election to the Parochial Church Council (PCC). The APCM is on Monday 31 March at 6.00pm in the Parish Church.
There are some criteria for eligibility to join the Electoral Rol; these are outlined on the application form, which can be downloaded at: parishresources.org.uk/the-pcc-as-a-charity/apcms-and-electoral-roll/
