SAVE THE DATES!

On Sunday 4 May, Misterton Parish Council is organising a free family picnic on the old school field. It will have a Star Wars theme – with a fancy dress competition for old and young. Competition outfits should be made from recycled/reused items (ie not bought from a shop). There will be prizes for two classes: children and adults (over 18s). Local band, Giant Hogweed, is booked to play and other entertainment is planned. Tea ‘packs’ can be ordered or BYO picnic. Further details will follow.

Thursday 8 May sees commemorations of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. In Misterton, the beacon on Jubilee Gardens will be lit at 9.30pm and the national proclamation read.

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO KEEP CEMETERY TIDY (+ pic)

The Misterton & West Stockwith Burial Committee is looking to recruit a number of volunteers to help look after the Cemetery on Haxey Road and the Remembrance Garden at the Church Lane entrance to the church yard.

To help keep these areas clean and tidy, we are looking for volunteers who could spare just a few hours a month to carry out some of the tasks listed below. Volunteers can do as much or as little as suits them, either individually or with friends. Tasks include picking up litter, picking up fallen twigs and small branches,  clearing headstones of grass and ivy, etc, tending older graves where there are no relatives.

Volunteers’ participation can make a real difference in helping to keep the Cemetery and Remembrance Garden sanctuaries of reflection in a beautiful, well-kept environment. To register your interest, please contact the Parish Clerk, Angela Harrison, by e-mailing theclerk@misterton-notts-pc.gov.uk or telephone 01427 890780. Alternatively leave your name and contact details at The Misterton Centre

PARISH CHURCH’S ELECTORAL ROLL

Every six years, the Parish Church must review its Electoral Roll and start a new one. This is different from the District Council’s Electoral Roll – the Church’s Electoral Roll is the Parish Church’s register of electors. In the same way that being on the civic Electoral Roll allows you to vote in parliamentary and local elections, joining the Church Electoral Roll means that you can vote on Church matters, attend the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) and stand for election to the Parochial Church Council (PCC). The APCM is on Monday 12 May at 7.00pm in the Church Room, Church Lane.

There are some criteria for eligibility to join the Electoral Roll; these are outlined on the application form, which can be downloaded at: parishresources.org.uk/the-pcc-as-a-charity/apcms-and-electoral-roll/
