PARISH COUNCIL OUTLINES OLD SCHOOL DILEMMA

Misterton Parish Council’s Spring newsletter will give residents an update on the meeting attended by members of Notts County Council (NCC) when the Parish Council was given the ‘bombshell’ news that NCC intends to sell the old school site. A commitment was made to build another complex in the village to house the youth service, which is a service run by NCC. Meanwhile the Chair and Clerk of the Parish Council have been asked to meet with Inspire, the Library provider, to see what its intentions are.

The Spring newsletter will be delivered to all households this month. Copies will be available in The Misterton Centre & Library when deliveries are complete.

SAVE FOOD, CUT WASTE

Food waste will be collected by Bassetlaw District Council (BDC) from October 2027. It is likely that a small caddy will be provided for kitchen worktops (use with compostable bin liners) with a larger one for outdoors. But it will be smaller than the size of our green, blue, and brown bins.

More information on how to cut down on food waste is in a leaflet produced by the joint Misterton & West Stockwith Parish Council’s Green Group. It will be delivered to all households by the end of the month. Now’s the time to start finding ways to cut down on food waste – and save money, too. Celebrity chefs are catching on to the idea of economising on buying and cooking food—their tips and other ways to cut down on food waste are in the leaflet. Copies will also be available in The Misterton Centre & Library when deliveries are complete.

VOLUNTEERS WANTED FOR NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

Volunteers are needed to expand the Neighbourhood Watch scheme in Misterton. Grove Park and Soss Lane are covered by Neighbourhood Watch groups but to ensure all households have the benefit of the crime prevention charity, more volunteers are wanted. People join Neighbourhood Watch for many different reasons, but mainly to improve safety around their home. The Soss Lane co-ordinator says: “We are a co-ordinated group of residents local to the Soss Lane and Station road area, encompassing The Packet Landing and York Terrace. We operate the scheme to tackle suspicious and criminal activity in the area and address anti-social behaviour. We are well organised, meet regularly and engage with multiple agencies to address issues in our neighbourhood.” For more information, see the Neighbourhood Watch website (www.ourwatch.org.uk) or contact Parish Cllr Mike Robertson on mike.robertson@misterton-notts-pc.gov.uk

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE

Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:

  • community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
  • housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
  • a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
  • the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
  • Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
  • home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service)
  • minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, BAC is looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.

For further details on any of the above please contact BAC on 01777 709650 or by e-mail (enquiries@actioncentre.org.uk). Further information can be found on the website: www.bassetlawactioncentre.org.uk.

ALLOTMENTS AVAILABLE

West Stockwith Parish Council has a list of allotments available in the village – and a waiting list of would-be gardeners. If you’d like an allotment, to get on the waiting list contact the Parish Clerk, Clare Tillen (07757 594 386 or e-mail clerk@west-stockwith-parish-council.org.uk).

USE OF THE OLD PHONE BOX

The old, red phone box at the corner of Malt Kiln has been out of use for many years. Now West Stockwith Parish Council is looking for ways to make use of the village’s heritage asset. In other places, the old red phone boxes, which are valued at upwards of £1500, have been used as a book exchange (but damp is a problem with this phone box), community information hub, home for a vending machine… If residents have any ideas, get in touch with a parish councillor.

CHURCH’S ANNUAL MEETING

St Mary’s Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) is on Monday 31 March at 6.00pm. All parishioners can attend the first part of the meeting to vote for a churchwarden. The second part of the meeting is for those residents on the Church’s electoral roll. Application forms for inclusion on the electoral roll can be found at www.parishresources.org.uk/the-pcc-as-a-charity/. The application form includes qualifying criteria. In the Church are nomination forms for membership of the Parochial Church Council.
