CALLING AVID READERS
Misterton Library hosts a Book Club, which meets every second Thursday of the month at the Library, from 3.00 to 4.00pm. It’s a wonderful way for book enthusiasts to connect and share their love of literature. For more information, call the Library (890646).
● For readers who get through paperbacks quickly, there’s a free paperback exchange in Misterton Parish Church. Swap one that you’ve read for one from the racks. The Church is open from 10.00am to 4.00pm daily. Donations of books are always welcome – but paperbacks only. Good-quality hardback books may be offered to the Library or are taken to the patients’ library at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
MISTERTON SCHOOL STARTS NEW BREAKFAST CLUB
A new Breakfast Club starts on Tuesday 22 April, when the school re-opens after the Easter break. The Breakfast Club runs from 7.30-8.15am and costs £3.25 per child. Then there is a free session from 8.15–8.45am. Places need to be booked one week in advance for the 8.15-8.45am part of the Breakfast Club to ensure correct staffing levels. This is open to all children and those with additional needs who may require more personalised support will initially come and be supported within the group.
Misterton Primary has been selected for the first pilot of the Early Adopter scheme. This means staff will be learning from the Breakfast Club and meeting with the Department for Education each month to see how it will develop and then how it will be rolled out across all schools. STUNNING PERFORMANCE AT VILLAGE CHURCH (+ pic)
The Isle of Axholme Orchestra played to a capacity audience at the village Parish Church last month (Thursday 3 April) with pieces by Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky. Then, as night fell, the classic 1925 black and white movie, Battleship Potemkin, was shown (pictured) accompanied by an original score by the orchestra’s conductor, Robert Steadman. The performance received a standing ovation.
● The next event at St Mary’s Parish Church is on Sunday 25 May at 7.30pm with a one-man play, Watson: the final problem, performed by Tim Marriott, known for his role as Gavin Featherly in the BBC sitcom The Brittas Empire. Tickets are £12.50 (students and under-17s £9.00). Call 07500 043 842 to book. Doors open at 7.00pm and refreshments are available.
