MISTERTON GALA: NEW ATTRACTIONS (+ pic)

Misterton’s annual Village Gala is on Saturday 6 July from 12 noon to 5.00pm on the Old School Field (off Wharf Road). Car parking on site is limited: stallholders may bring their cars and park behind their stalls. Parking for disabled drivers (blue badge users) is available but others are asked to park elsewhere – or leave the car at home and have a healthy walk to the venue.

The fun starts with Anya Wiltschinsky and finishes with the fabulous local live band, Rain, at 3.30pm. There’s dancing from Bedazzled Musical Theatre Company at 2.00pm, a fun dog show at 2.30pm, performance by pupils of the Everett Fox School of Dance at 3.00pm (pictured at last year’s Gala), and the annual raffle! Stalls, vintage vehicles, bar selling Idle Brewery real ales, and fun activities for all ages. Bring your friends and family and see you there! There’s still space for a couple more gazebo-sized stalls: e-mail mistertongala@gmail.com for a booking form.

YOUTH CLUB SESSIONS THIS SUMMER

Misterton Youth Club is holding a homework club this summer, from 5.00-7.00pm on Wednesday evenings. This is in addition to regular sessions on Mondays (9-12 years) and Thursdays (13+ years), with open sessions for all ages on Tuesdays and Fridays. This summer’s activities will include putting on a talent show at the end of July, career and development sessions, focus on mental well-being, and sports events on the Old School Field. The summer term ends on Friday 26 July. For more information, contact Youth Leader, Jason, on 07816 088165.

BASSETLAW ACTION CENTRE: UPDATE

Bassetlaw Action Centre (BAC) is continuing to provide:

  • community transport for essential journeys – health appointments and shopping, for example
  • housing advice services, which are telephone-based primarily but face-to-face appointments are also available
  • a menu of Befriending services – including group befriending, telephone befriending, face to face and peer befriending
  • the Staying Well Programme (6-week self-management course for people with a long-term condition) available both virtually and face to face
  • Get Out Get Active (GOGA) service encourages people to become more active and will continue to offer one-to-one support
  • home support service – a domiciliary service to help people who are just starting to struggle at home (this is a paid-for service)
  • minibus trips – including the newly launched lunch club trips.

BAC would like to hear from anyone with a few hours to spare, who would like to volunteer to support the Action Centre to deliver essential services to local older and vulnerable people. In particular, BAC is looking for more local volunteer drivers to help people to get to health appointments and for shopping. Volunteers are paid 45p per mile for every mile they drive on behalf of the scheme.

For further details on any of the above please contact BAC on 01777 709650 or by e-mail (enquiries@actioncentre.org.uk). Further information can be found on the website: www.bassetlawactioncentre.org.uk.

CHURCH’S INTERIOR DECORATION

Work is continuing on the internal decoration of St Mary’s Parish Church, with an opportunity to see progress at the next service on Sunday 30 June at 11.00am. On Saturday 14 September, there is the annual Ride & Stride event when participants can cycle, drive, walk, go on horseback – or use any other means of transport – to visit St Mary’s and other local churches. Through sponsorship, riders and striders can nominate half the funds raised to go to St Mary’s with the other half going to Notts Historic Churches Trust. This charity has helped St Mary’s financially during the long period of repairs and renovations.
