Friends of Woodlands and Coachwood Green are an established Community Group based at Shireoaks, that works to develop, maintain and enhance the former Shireoaks Colliery now known as Woodlands and Coach Wood Green. We do this in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council and we have recently leased an area which is being developed as a Wildlife Discovery Area, to create a place where people can visit to learn about the habitats and species.

Does your passion lie with the natural world?
Our site is attached to the 90 hectare country park which is very special habitat for wildflowers including rare orchids as it sits on top of magnesium limestone. It also boasts many dragonflies and damselflies and an array of birds and mammals.
Our nature group monitors and records our wild visitors for both local and national charities like Butterfly Conservation and carries out small habitat improvement projects.
